| | The most blessed day of them all. Sweet.
Two dinners tommorrow... sweet sweet double gorging! D&D on Saturday... cool cool. And then hunting camp starting Saturday evening. I ll be communing with nature till Tuesday then. I m looking forward to it. Maybe I ll shoot something... probably not. I m sure I ll return with lots of tales though.
Hope everyone else enjoys their Turkey Day!
-bampf
PS... Mmmmm... turkey. | | | Had a nice weekend past with some note-worthy developments. First off: the soccer mom van.
That was the solution to our car woes. A van. A van that Kristyn was unbelievably excited to get. Strange. Anyway, the van really is quite nice. It s big. Lots of storage space. In excellent excellent condition. It s a 99 and has a ton less miles than my 01 Mitsu. No surprise there, though, considering I m absolutely brutal on cars.
So we have a van. I wanna nip in the bud any suggestions that imply kids will be coming shortly thereafter. The added space is for hauling friends, armour, meat etc... not for rugrats. We ll have none of that.
Anyway, Saturday started with a trip into the mountains with Chris to set up my tree stand. We had wedged just wedged a board in between two trees for me to use as a hunting perch. I was content with that, but Chris decided that was a bit too precarious and bought me a nice tree stand. Very nice of him. So we set it up. It s pretty sweet, I ll be much more confortable (as long as I get ast my slight acrophobia).
After that Kristyn and I had a pre-emptive Turkey Day with my family. It was really nice. Just my mom, grandma and my siblings with their significant others. Had a nice traditional T-Day meal... with three different kinds of corn! Oh yeah. I love corn.
Then we loaded up the deep freeze that my parents got us for a wedding gift but have been unable to transport until now. It fit in the van like a charm... thanks to the uber-adjustable van seats.
Sunday we had an indoor fighter practice. It s a neat site. A big soccer place. There were a bunch of pre-teen little soccer girls flitting about. Not surprisingly, a bunch of burly guys (and one gal) walking around in armour turned quite a few heads.
The practice was awesome. Did some first class wailing. I started with shield and mace, then moved to Chunk. Chunk is Corwin s massive greatsword. I mean it s massive, even for a greatsword. I found myself to be a danger to others when weilding that beast. I smashed a couple of relative newbies in their helms with exceedingly heavy blows. Didn t mean to do it... but with such a heavy weapon it s hard to avoid. I think it dazed both of them... might have mangled the one guy s helm a bit. Oops. Fearing that I might damage some one badly, I switched to shield and Christian style greatsword, which was actually pretty fun... I had never tried the form before. Might have to work on that some more...
Anyway, after fighting we got some food and I made for the Guild. Hung out and got to play an excellent exhibition BloodBowl game against Rob. Good stuff. I won 2-1 this time (last time he decimated my team in one half).
Sunday night we had the daunting task of getting the deep freeze into the basement. By time all was said and done we had to remove two different doors and remove the hinges and lid from the freezer. Arduous. But with a concerted effort we narrowly avoided any Dirk Gently inspired snafus and got the thing in place. As of now we have many things actively being cold downstairs. After this weekend we ll get our half a side of beef (from last week s slaughterings) and we ll really put that freezer to good use. Sweet.
-bampf | | | Been a while since I made a list... I m not ambitious enough to follow bp s route and promise one a week for fear of producing shoddy lists just to meet promised deadlines (<cough>favorite food<cough>). So today is my City Slickers inspired list of best and worst days in my life.
I m gonna start off with the worst, since there are some pretty depressing entries there and I d rather have you finish on a high note.
Top Five Worst Days:
5. First Sex (February-ish 1990) First time I had sex was a nightmare. There s an awful lot of build up to your first sexual encounter and for me everything just went disasterously awry. The day started with a failed attempt to play hookie debacle. After much scheming, we managed to make it to the girlfriend s stinky white trash parent s house. The act it self involved lots of nervousness, awkwardness, fumbling and embarrassment. To this day I m not sure if I actually achieved any penis-vagina contact at all. On top of all of this I didn t even really like her... Ug. Bad day.
4. Quitting Football (October 1997) By my sophomore year in college I was starting to hate football. I was still pretty good (and had lettered as a freshmen) but the deadly combination of Physics labs and football (plus the several campus work study jobs I held, plus trying to be the man of the house back home) had completely broken me down. I knew I had to quit. The problem was that football helped define me. I was a hometown football hero (no one ever noticed my grades or art awards... you only get accolades for being all-county Guard). I felt like I was letting so many people down. It was gut-wrenching. Sobbing, I tried to express this to Coach Streeter. He was very understanding, but it didn t make it any easier. All that day I was filled with self-loathing and regret. By the end of the week it felt like a huge weight had been lifted and not even a modicum of regret ever returned.
3. First Day of G-tira (October-ish 1983) Our school district had a gifted program for those of us who had done particularly well on standardized testing. It was called G-tira (Gifted and Talented in Rural America... how clever) and students would go once every two weeks... something akin to the class in that Simpson s first season episode. Problem was it was held at the high school. So I had to get up an hour earlier and take the High School bus. As an extremely introverted 3rd grader I was terrified of that prospect. To further set me off kilter there was a black out that first morning. Eventually I sat petrified on the HS bus and then got lost trying to find the G-tira room (too scared to ask for help). I had worked myself into such a nervous frenzy I vomited up my breakfast and started crying. Fortunately a teen neighbor girl who knew who I was hauled me to the nurse. Eventually I made it to the class, and failed to make any friends in my horrible state (some things never change... I still can t make small talk with strangers). By the end of the day, things started to get better but then I was unable to find my bus home, running frantically from bus to bus trying to identify the bus driver... from an 8 year old s perspective, that was an absolute nightmare day.
2. Day before Grandfather s Death (February 1997) I always remembered my grandfather as a powerful man. He worked on the railroad for 30+ years... driving spikes and carrying railroad ties for eight hours a day. He had shoulders like a god. He was a hard drinking man s man, and never visited the hospital or a doctor. Cancer runs heavy in that side of the family and he was stricken pretty bad with it after he retired. Yet he defiantly never went for treatment. I think he pretty much knew what the diagnosis would be and he had no desire to spend his final days in a hospital with doctor s probing his ass (he had colon cancer). He was content to lay bed-ridden in the house he had built and go quietly into the night. Eventually he got so bad that my mom and grandmother drug him, unwillingly, to the hospital. It was far too late for any meaningful treatment, and soon after he arrived there he slipped into a coma. I found out later that day and bullied my way in to see him well after visitor s hours. He was not much more than a gaunt skeleton lying lifeless in a dark room. His mouth was gaping open, with a machine assisting his breathing. It was truly heartbreaking to see him like that, dying in the place he least wanted to be. I sat beside him for a long time, said my goodbyes and left. It was more relief than anything that I felt when my mom called the next day to tell me he had died.
1. Father s Death (June 1996) This was the obvious number one. My dad s chronic asthma had been in high gear in the months leading up to his death and there was talk about putting him on disability until he got better (over the years he experienced many peaks and troughs). We knew his disease would wear on his body and probably cut his life short, but never thought that could come so soon (he was 37). It was days before graduation and I had left that morning to help out with the middle school track and field day as part of our 'Senior Community Service Day.' When I returned the house was empty and I knew something was terribly wrong. My grandmother showed up with the worst news possible. The rest of the day is something of a blur. A maelstrom dire emotions. An hour or so later my brother got home from their half day of school. Breaking the news to him was probably the hardest thing I ve had to do.
Damn. What a dour read so far. I really didn t mean to depress anyone. Enough of the bad stuff. Let s move on to the good...
Top Five Best Days:
5. Pennsic XXX (July 2001)I believe it was the third day of Pennsic. I was really getting caught up in the excitement and majesty of the entire event. We fought in a giant field battle that morning. Several thousand fighters crashing into one another again and again. The din of battle was absolutely intoxicating! An incredible rush. That evening was a wonderful Luper Pennsic meal (I think it was Greek night... my favorite!). That night I attended an irish wake and drank very heavily. By time I stumbled back to camp I was pretty drunk (probably only the third or fourth time ever that I ve been really drunk). At that point Barktooth kept offering me 30+ year old Chivas... I was too enebriated to refuse. For an hour or so I hung out by Corwin. He would call to any camp passersby and I d try to get them to admire my ass. It was an uproarious time. After some cuddling with Klugh (something he still denies) Molly (and I think some one else) tended to me as puked off the nearby bridge. What a day!
4. Sports Award Banquet (May 1992) This was our annual high school awards event. My senior year I cleaned house. I won like four or five awards for Track and Football including top male athlete. It was a good night and I was one of the main centers of attention. I didn t think all that much of it, as I was well aware that I was merely a medium sized fish in the proverbial small pond. However, my family was there and my dad was beaming with pride. Knowing how proud my dad had been that night became especially meaningful as Bad Day #1 would take place a couple short weeks later. (damn, sorry to sneak another depressing entry in with the goods...)
3. GamesDay 2000 (June 2000)I ve had countless wonderful days spent hanging out at the Guild with all my great Guild friends but one truly stands out. Games Day 2000. I ve been going to this Games Workshop premiere event nearly every year since 97 and they are always fun. But 2000 was the best. We had a good time hanging out at the convention, checking out all the new cool GW toys. Afterwards we made our annual trek to Phillips for much crab gorging. This was the first time I had seen the truly awe-inspiring event that is Rob eating crabs. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel. The Days Inn had double booked our room so we ended up getting a free suite upgrade. So we all were hanging out in this huge room deciding our next move. Rob and I started building a fort. From there we decided we would do battle and split into sides (I think sides were determined basically by who was sitting on which side of the room at the time). It was Rob, Tubby and I vs. Rich, Shane, Ryan, Moser and Vinny. We each had time to set up fortifications. We removed the pictures from the walls, turned the beds and cots on their side and piled pillows and cushions high as makeshift battlements. We made several runs to the ice machine and filled every container we had full of ice. A monumental ice battle ensued. For probably an hour there were coordinated long range attacks, assaults and maneuvers. I use the lid to our ice bucket as a buckler to deflect away countless missiles. As the ice supply dwindled things devolved into deadly hand-to-hand combat (as Rob gave the "over the top, boys!" cry). Once we all collapsed from exhaustion (and our wounds) we took account of the scene. Several people were bloodied, the room was destroyed, the carpet was soaked, and we had had the time of our friggin lives!
2. Rome (June 2001) My trip to Italy was wondrous on numerous fronts. And there were many good days. However the first full day spent in Rome edged out the others (even the storied Venice day). It was a gorgeous day spent admiring the incredible ruins. I was walking on air already, completely enamored with the idea of interacting with architecture thousands of years old. Outside St. Peter s Basilica I first met Kristyn. We had an immediate rapport, drawn together by our shared mocking of the pope. We continued to chat as we passed through the papacy. The Cistine Chapel was amazing. It was breathtaking as you stand there in a state of total wonderment, tears filling your eyes. Inside St. Peter s I ditched the tour group and wondered about still awe-struck. I waited in line to see the exhumed body of Blessed Pope John XXIII, and got completely lost from the group... later having to run through St Peter s square to catch up with them. It s not every day that you get to: tour the ruins of a 3000 year old culture, view a dead pope, meet your future wife, and see the Cistine Chapel. Now that was a good day.
1. My Wedding Day (July 2003) Another #1 no-brainer. What a perfect day. Started with golf with Chris, Chad and grm (which ended with the mother of all thunderstorms... very cool). Then the wedding. In my wildest dreams I couldn t have imagined a better ceremony. It was so beautiful. Our minister was amazing. And of course Kristyn was stunningly beautiful... as I ve said before a true vision. Seeing all my friends in one place was fantastic. It was just a whirlwind-of-joy kinda night. Even the dirty stinking jew DJ playing the Electric Slide couldn t ruin it. Of course the best part was being forever bonded to the woman of my dreams. See... a nice sappy ending.
Well, hope you made it this far. Damn long entry. But a pretty good list if you ask me. Hope everyone enjoyed.
-bampf | | | Alton Brown is a god. Really he is. Just watched the repeat of his hour long Turkey day special... pure genius. Good Eats very well may be the greatest TV show ever. Seriously.
-b | | | Anyone else really excited about the possible sweet sweet irony of Michael Jackson being sent to federal-pound-you-in-the-ass prison?
Jus wonderin.
-b | | | What weekend is complete without all three?
Good weekend back in the midstate. Lot s of hanging out with friends. Guns, food and death. All finished up with some excellent BloodBowl action.
[Reader s Note: the feint at heart and animal lovers may wanna just skip the next two paragraphs] Saturday was another butchering day at the folks. Cows this time. I was there to assist with the actual killing. With the pigs, they always get it on Friday while we don t arrive till Saturday for the cutting-into-bite-sized-peices festivities. I still find the shooting bit nominally disturbing. I can almost see the bewilderment in the beasts as the creature who has fed and nurtured them their whole life is suddenly shooting them in the head. Fills me with a general sadness. Of course shortly thereafter I have no problem helping toss around their skinned carcasses. I figured the effect would be less fleeting if cows weren t so damn tasty.
I also had to bury (pronounced the central PA way, rhyming with curry) one of the pet cats that had been hit by a car the night before. The cat was 10+ years old and always a family favorite. My brother (replete with dreadlocks and gauged ears) was really visibly shaken by the loss. We ve always gotten incredibly attached to our pets... more like additional family members than pets really. We erected a little cairn over the site. Twas a pretty morose morning.
Things picked up considerably from there. I met up with Chris around 1:00 to do our scouting. We trudged through the mountains (on foot and on four-wheeler) and established my designated hunting spot. I m looking forward to doing a little hunting. I m not really gung-ho to kill a deer, but am anxious for the long periods of peacefulness spent sitting alone in the outdoors. Excepting the occasional rifle reports it s one of the most serene environs imaginable. Time to clear your mind and think is a wonderful thing when your life is so hectic.
After the mountains we shoot in our rifles... then it was play time. We blasted through a couple hundred rounds on the AK. We set up plastic bottles, milk jugs, and any other detritus we could muster to create a makeshift shooting gallery. Chris is an excellent shot. At one point he put about 6 consecutive rounds into a milk jug, causing it to jump into the air, only to be blasted in another direction before it could come to rest... a lovely Kalishnikov Ballet...
We both had a really great time. I m sure the neighbors were terrified, but it was worth it. Some really quality father-son bonding stuff. Afterwards we collected Kathy and Mac and had dinner at the Chinese Super Buffet in Carlisle. Good stuff.
From there I went to the Guild and hung out for a little, eventually crashing at Kent s.
Sunday was all about BloodBowl. Had two excellent league games. The first was the huge game against Jkarr. As predicted it was a battle. The hotly contested game ended a 1-1 tie, with me blowing a decent scoring chance on the last turn of the game. Excellent game overall despite me being plagued by some horrible luck in the first half... one of my best players was killed... by fans! Luckily I was able to bribe Tubby into resurrecting him.
In the second game I played SuM... I was heavily favored to win, but he took a quick 2-0 lead following a horrocious string of rolls on my part. This was the first time I had trailed a game by 2 TDs in years! However my rolling improved and I was able to pull out a 3-2 victory. Nice.
I even played a for-fun exhibition match against Rob... luckily it wasn t a league game as we only played a half, but it was a half where Rob put out 6 of my 11 players. Brutal.
The weekend ended with an excellent trip to Angies with Tubby, Ben and Evan. Mmmm... Angies.
So that was my weekend. Sorry for the long-winded post. Took me two days to type it. Good stuff though.
-bampf
| | | I was denied one of my BloodBowl games. The little bastard I was supposed to play last night canceled at the last second. So I win by forfeit. That sucks as he s the worst player in the league and I woulda run up the score on him, vastly improving my players stats and abilities. He ll drown in lakes of blood for his transgression.
It did get me out of driving to and fro Hbg on a weeknight so I guess that s a blessing, but little solace considering I ll play Jkarr this weekend and really coulda used the boost to prepare to face him.
Oh well. Speaking of the weekend, should be a good one. Heading home tonight. I ll get to hang out at the Guild. Hoping to play 2.5 games of BloodBowl. Tommorrow Chris and I are heading into the mountains to scout our spots for hunting season... which is rapidly approaching. We also have some shooting to do (Chris has a new rifle to sight in)... I m using that as an excuse to bring the AK home. I m sure we ll blast a couple hundred rounds through it. We ll be shooting on someone s private land so we won t have to worry about all the ridiculous public range restrictions... like you re only allowed to have three rounds in a rifle magazine at a time. How stupid is that, so I load three rounds into a thirty round clip? People who pass gun laws are all fucking morons... every last one of em (and I mean that in the most hate filled malicious way possible).
Oh yeah. There ll be some dead cows this weekend too. Family will be killing our cow tomorrow so I ll probably help with that... we ll have a freezer full of fresh cow in a couple weeks time! Woo Hoo!
-bampf | | | Just got word. Krisyn s PoS car is even more of a PoS than previously beleived. It s been running extremely hot for a while and loosing coolant. Since the two of us have been commuting together no big deal, we park it in the back yard and there it stays normaly. Now that Kristyn will be seeking a new job she ll need a car so we took it to be check out. Ist Kaput!
The mechanic guy eschewed any kind of technical jargon with Kristyn (cause she s a girl, I guess) and summed up the problem as: 'broken engine.' Ouch. Certainly not worth fixing on a 10+ year old domestic car.
So looks like we ll be shopping for another used vehicle... timing couldn t be worse with holiday shopping season upon us. D'oh.
Oh well. The advantage is that Chris works for a dealership so they have the inside track on cheap trade-ins. We ll see what happens.
-b | | | Tennis got pre-empted last night. The Bone was feeling unwell or something. Plus Mike Flynn and The Bone aren t part polar bear like Chad and I... silly buggers. Hopefully we ll play next week.
Instead of tennis we watched the Monday Night game. Twas a good guys-hanging-out-and-talking-football kinda evening. Haven t had one of them in a great long while. The Eagles pulled a win out of their arses... nice to see one PA team doing well (not that I ve given up hope on my Steelers... they still have a very good shot at winning the North).
An interesting point was brought up last night. Donovan McNabb continues to suck (proving Rush was right). The media keeps bringing up his thumb injury... an injury that the training staff couldn t determined if it was even a sprain (more like a bruise when he hit it on a teammate s helmet)... meanwhile Brett Favre has been playing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand and has been having a decent year. Yeah.
Anyway, there s big news revolving around Kristyn s head, but I won t steal her thunder, so I ll wait to see if she posts before I comment.
Got the standings for the King of Prussia BloodBowl league... I m in first. Cool. Have to make it over there and play some more games pronto. BloodBowl is life. I should have two games this weekend in Hbg as well. One against the worst player in the league (I m hoping to break the league s scoring record and post 5 TDs) and then the clash of titans... me versus Tubby. Tubby s got the best record in the league, having beaten the nigh unbeatable Scott Tipping. We ve played countless times in previous leagues and they re always storied, monumental battles. I m looking forward to it. My prediction: Uthus Bathu will own a couple sissy War Dancers.
-bampf | | | Baltimore is now officially the Land of Glutony. That s what our weekend with the inlaws became... a tribute to glutony. Mmmm... glutony.
Needless to say we had an excellent time. Got out of work early on Friday. Got lost for a couple of hours due to bad directions and then dinner at Phillips at the inner harbor. Damn that place is awesome. Much glutony ensued.
Saturday Chris had a pool tournament so Kristyn, Kathy and I visited a couple of the museums... BMA and the Walter. Very cool. Afterwards we drove to the pool tournament to watch one of Chris s matches. Then we had a hefty Outback dinner. Again there was much gorging.
Sunday began with a grease laden breakfast buffet at the Golden Corral. Yeah, we did it right. Sunday afternoon we went to this restored mill eclectic shopping mall thing south of Baltimore. There we got a head start on our Xmas shopping. So that was cool.
After a day of walking the musuems and a day of shopping we were just thick lumps Sunday night. Went to bed ridiculously early, again bagging Sunday night roleplay. That kinda sucks but it seems this happens all the time... our weekends are just always packed. We ll see if we can come up with a better roleplaying solution tomorrow night.
-bampf | | | OK... big news today. Kristyn has joined the blogging world. Follow the link at left to get to hers. The layout may look a bit familiar, at least until we do some more customizations for her.
So go check it out.
-bampf | | | After nearly two years of bampfbloggin I finally decided I had grown weary of my garish colors. How does everyone like this scheme? Suggestions?
I figure I ll do some more experimenting and see what grows on me.
-b | | 11/5/2003 11:50:54 AM Gaming... Tennis... good | Add Comment |
| Played tennis Monday with Chad (who, by the way, has added some greay comments to some of the Lists... check out Memories and Games for starters), Mike Flynn and The Bone.
Chad and I vs. them. Not exactly even teams. We won 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. It was great fun though. I miss playing. Felt wonderful to be out there hitting around. We re hoping to make this a regular thing (at least until the weather becomes unbearable... and since Chad and I both thrive in the cold it ll take a good snow storm for that to happen).
Tuesday was role play where Dan finished his excellent one-(two actually)-shot. Next week it s back to Hyborea so I need to get to work on the next adventure.
This weekend we re heading to Baltimore to hang out with the in-laws. Philips. Oh yeah. Unfortunately sounds like I ll be missing the first flag football game of the season and also a visit by Lord Humungous (and his assorted lackeys)... makes me sad. Hopefully football will resume on a regular basis and Humungous will return anew sometime soon.
Having an overloaded schedule isn t the worst thing in the world... the opposite would be much worse, I assume.
-bampf | | | So I decided to make an Oral Sex List. Inspired by Slumbering Shuttlecock s Lore... the original is here: Oral Sex List
Nothing new, he s had it for years. But I ve been trying to come up with a way to just list various people who I think are cool... no other qualifier than that. Cool to me... the oral sex list seemed a good fit. The idea being, of course, the listed individuals deserve oral sex... not from me necessarily mind you, just in general.
Note, I ve included only living cool people as the idea of fellating a corpse is just kinda creepy.
Anyway, in no particular order, my Oral Sex List:
Alton Brown The Johns Peter Jackson Jeff Corwin Terry Gilliam Alan Moore Lewis Black Brad Pitt Eddie Vedder Jervis Johnson Joel Hodgeson Dennis Miller Everyone involved with Adult Swim Al Yankovic Johnny Depp David Cross Jhonen Vazquez Matt Groening Lore Sjoberg Tom Lehrer Janeane Garofalo George R. R. Martin George Carlin Joel and Ethan Coen My wife
That ll do for now. I may make subtractions and deletions later... such a list should be a mutable thing.
-b | | | OK, it is well documented that BloodBowl is life.
I m now in two concurrent BloodBowl leagues. By my best reckoning... twice the BloodBowl... twice the life. Nice.
Anyway, to catch up on recent goings ons...
Did a weekday Guild run last week. That wasn t bad. The drive to Hbg from work isn t that horrible. Straight shot on the turnpike... sometimes the drive home takes just as long depending on the state of the Blue Route. Anyway, so I got to play Kent in half an exibition game of BloodBowl (something we ve wanted to do for a while) and then I played Brad. He s new to the game so I beat him pretty mercilessly, 4-1. I felt bad and let him score at the end. He s a good guy and a good strategist at other games, but he s still learning the rules. That s the one problem with league games... you really can t let up on players as every TD will help you further down the road in the league.
Afterward we made the obligatory trip to Angies. We ran into Lord Humungous and Erica there. The Humungous One and I did the Cringo switch so that was cool. Mmmm... Cringo. It reminded me of the old days of the Guild when two or three of us would go to Angies and every half hour or so someone else would wander in and join us. Three or hour hours later a dozen of us would leave. Good times.
Friday we had a clean-up day at work in preparation for a big client audit. We spent a couple hours throwing out old equipment, office supplies, even a futon and an exercise machine. One of the managers found an old bottle of rum that an employee had brought back as a gift from the Carribean. So at the end of the day we decided to get rid of that too. Around 4:00 half a dozen of us were drinking rum and cokes by my desk and talking shop. Quite a picture. What a great place to work.
Friday night we did the Halloween thing at Dan and Karri s. That was cool. I donned my SCA garb (talk about having a built in custom). I had to devote considerable time trying to squash Kristyn s maternal insticts as she (and the other girls) fawned over the adorable Trick-or-Treating tykes. No babies for us damn it. At least not for a while. A long while.
Saturday was busy. Got up early and helped The Bone move. It was cool to see the Jersey gang again. Made plans to play tennis today with Chad, Mike Flynn and The Bone. I m happy about that. We ve been talking about it since Vegas... one of those things where you just need to set a date or you ll never do it. Haven t played in a long time... I m really excited about it.
Afterwards I rushed to King of Prussia to play in a local BloodBowl league. The league there allows existing rosters (usually a momumental no-no in league play) so I ll be playing teams way more advanced than mine. I played a human team that had about 50 points of Team Rating on my new Amazon team (in game terms that translates into a huge handicap for me). I won 3-1 and rolled fairly poorly all game. The girl I played was very nice and knew the rules of the game well. She just had poor tactics. It reminded me a lot of the Guild's early leagues where we played a lot, but never really understood the meta-game until Tipping showed up and started decimating us. That s when we really learned the game... you d learn more in one crushing defeat to Tipp than you would in a dozen wins against other Guilders. So, I may dominate this league, maybe not. We ll see. But I am happy to have a league that s only 20 minutes away.
That night was Halloween party II at Annie s. It was a pirate and damsel themed party so Kristyn made me a lovely green skirt and a corset... my gut was hanging out nicely. The outfit was a big hit. Sometimes I m just way too eager to embarass and humiliate myself. Lots of good food at the party and we were able to leave relatively early (probably 11 or so) so I was happy. I can really only bear social gatherings for so long.
Sunday I tagged along with Kristyn to her big tennis event thing. It was a national event... I saw Martina Navratilova (sp?) playing. She s a man. No two ways around it... man. It was a pretty dull way to spend a Sunday morning and afternoon, but it did get me more excited to play tennis today. We ditched role play Sunday night. That was unfortunate but Kristyn had been working ridiculous hours at the tennis thing plus she spent nearly all her free hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday cooking for the two parties (she constructed an awesome Goblin Head Cheeseball and Witch s Hat Cake amonst other comestibles)... there s no way she coulda been lucid enough to make the session enjoyable. Sounds like Dan and Karri were equally exhausted so that s cool. As much a I hate missing sessions (drives many DMs crazy) a room full of weary and grumpy gamers woulda been no fun.
Well, that s the update. I been meaning to make some entries with actual content other than just documenting my life... maybe I ll be able to do that this week. Hope so. I was thinking about maybe making an Oral Sex list like Lore s (of Brunching Shuttlecocks/Book of Ratings fame). That could be cool.
