Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

12/22/2005 9:29:21 PM         First Impressions of the SouthComments (12)
For those not in the know, I ve spent the last five days in the deep south. Mostly in Orlando. The weeks leading up to this were a mad rush of work, packing, Xmas shopping and decidedly madcap hi-jinks so sorry for the lack of posts.

Anyway, this was my first exposure to the deep south. I d never been south of VA save for a layover in Charlotte. I d been to Texas, but Texas certainly has its own feel and attitude only tangentially tied to that of the South. So I was very much looking forward to some exposure to real southerners (a scary storied people).

So my first impressions:

Southrons like Waffle House and Shoneys way way way too much!

70 MPH speed limits are cool.

The Carolinas are a vast swamp and marsh wasteland unfit for human habitation (sorry, grm).

Every single non-tourist human being in the state of Florida is a native spanish speaker.

DisneyWorld s majesty and mystique has been greatly exagerated.

Well... that s about it for now. Vacation has been decent. Meghan has been sick way too much so that put a serious damper on things, but we ve been having fun none the less.

I ll post more complete accounts later. For now I need rest... 8 more hours of driving tomorrow on one of the busiest driving days of the year... egad.

Dictionary.com s Word of the Day is back to gaming terms... carapace and sylvan in the last week or so. Gamers unite.

OK, things have been happening. Went to Phil Con this weekend to defend my BloodBowl Tourney crown from two years ago. Probie, jkarr and I went down to join a field of two others. Big turn-out. Anyway, I won all three matches with the mighty Purple Saurus Rex and was crowned once again. Huzzah.

There s a great story from after the event that I have to tell you guys (and document for posterity) but I m a bit busy right now (I have work I absolutely must finish before I go on vacation next week) so I ll do that later.

In other news Steelers easily vanquished Evan s Bears to put them back into their rightful place as a decent team in a shite division (should end the silly comparisons to the 85 team that were starting to creep up). Looking at the rest of the season, we have the inside track for the playoffs now... sweet. Thank you Miami and Dallas.

In other other news, Meghan has a new do. Her hair is considerably shorter than mine and has a red tint. Looks really good. Chad would be proud.

More, later. Gotta go do work.

PS... Also wanted to mention that the greatest commercial ever has been resurrected... the Nextel Dance Party commerical is probably the funniest thing you could ever observe on network TV (excepting maybe Family Guy though I barely count Fox as one of the networks). Try to catch it if you can.
