Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

The deal is done. Last offer was accepted. There was $600 difference between the last offer/counter-offer. Pretty silly considering the cost of the house.

Settlement and move-in will be late March.

Sweet.

Looks like I ve found a house. I m pretty excited about it. Made an offer on Sunday, counter-offer Sunday night and again today. We re to the point of bickering over a few hundred dollars so I assume it ll be a done deal by this evening.

So anyway, it s a pretty sweet place. It s in Chambers Hill. So, yes, I caved and abandoned my beloved West Shore. Alas I held out as long as I could. It s near just about everything, has lots of space and will require near no work. Nice place. Good price.

Targetting mid March for settlement, maybe sooner. Sweet. I m gonna have to go on a massive shopping spree to fill the house though. I m suffering from a dearth of furniture. Pretty much all the assorted post-college bachelor crap that I accumulated over the years was left behind in Ridley Park. Now that I can afford it I ll probably try to get some nice stuff.

Exciting times.

Nine days til SuperBowl Sunday... and more importantly, nine days til new Family Guy episodes! Sweet sweet manna from the heavens! Fox has done so many retarded things over the years it s hard to beleive they un-canceled such a great show. Anyway, new episodes... it s exhilerating. And gives me something to really look forward to on SuperBowl Sunday... stupid friggin Pats.

On a related note, check out the Onion AV Club this week. It has an interview with Seth McFarland where we find out, amongst other things, that apparently the Simpsons staff hate Family Guy (probably because the Simpsons suck now in comparison) and that he was scheduled to be on one of the doomed 9/11 flights and is alive only because of a botched itinerary... crazy.

So go check it out. Seriously. Do it.

So, in the span of two days the Steelers lose, Johnny Carson dies, and the divorce becomes final. Fuck. Talk about a major downer.

I m not gonna dwell on em though. What would be the point?

On the up side looks like I ll make it through the week without a drive to Philly. Gotta celebrate the little victories at a time like this. I ve found Quake III also eases the pain. Sweet sweet Quake III. See Evan s post a few days back to help enumerate the cathartic nature of the game.

I m keeping my eye on the prize, which right now is the whole house buying thing. Gotta go see some more this weekend. There s one from last week that remains a possibility. It s in Marysville... which is of course Perry County... but it s Perry County Lite... the stigma ain t as bad there. Could be a cool house... has a giant finished basement that could serve as game room/AV room... and a hottub. Lotsa potential. We ll see.

Finally, I ve had a spare minute to post. It s not my fault. I been busy.

First off, the Stillers! Holy shite, what a game. I think I experienced three coronaries, each more severe than the previous... they occurred as such- 1)when Doug Brien's potentially game winning 47 yard field goal caromed of the cross bar. 2) when Ben threw a pick on the next play from scrimmage. 3) and then the big one when Brien missed again, this time from 43.

Oh my God. Rididculous. We got lucky. No denying. However, I will point out that the only reason the Jets were even still in that game was a couple long returns and a very uncharacteristic Bus fumble. Other than those we dominated.

So I m actually feeling pretty good about our chances against the Pats. We re at home. We trounced em once this season. And I m confident Big Ben will rebound from his poor performance. And then to the show!

In other news... ah who am I kidding. There is no other news.

Of wait. Yeah. I m looking at houses. Saw a bunch on Saturday. None really grabbed me and shouted 'live here.' Strangley, I ve found that I am very put off by looking at houses inhabited by smokers. Two of the places I looked at were decent places that fit all my needs but the ash trays and lingering stench of smoke really turned me off of them.

Ah well, I should be seeing a bunch more in the coming days. I have expanded my search to some areas of the East Shore... which I was kinda loath to do, but it makes sense. We ll see what happens.

Things have been pretty dull lately. Highlighted mainly by playoff football. Sweet sweet playoff football.

A Jets win was a good thing for us, as they re the crappiest AFC team available, even though it would have been nice to see the Chargers advance... they re more than due. This weekend will be huge. Big Ben will lead us to victory.

In Guild news I have lost about 9 consecutive miniatures games, including my last seven BloodBowl games (it s unusualy that I ever loose two in a row)... and yet I ve won the last three board games I ve played... maybe I need to switch emphasis.

I still need to see Tannenbaums Underwater... plans have been made at least four times to see it and it just hasn t happened yet (including once where we made it to the theatre only to tunr away). Maybe later this week. Higgins, you out there?

The other big news is I ve started a house search. I think it ll be a lot easier this time, having gone through the process. I m looking at Enola, Camp Hill and New Cumberland primarily. I almost broke down and considered the East Shore, but then came to my senses. I m pretty excited about the prospect... this itinerant crap is gettin old.

My BloodBowl season ended abruptly last night. My precious skinks went undefeated through the first ten games of the season only to end with three straight losses including a first round playoff ousting against Stoner. The dice conspired against me but I also made a few key mistakes in both game plan and execution. Oh well. Stoner played very well against me and earned the win. I m pulling for him or Darkan to go all the way (as two rookie coaches). It s just as well that I loose now... winning my own league when I m the commish and webmaster would look kinda funny.

So on the BloodBowl front I m left to pine for the Spring league, where Skink-o-Rama (who, to erase the shame of their loss, will be renamed to the PurpleSaurus Rexes) will be benched in favor of two new teams... Undead and another to be determined. Woo Hoo. Even during league downtime, BloodBowl is still life.

Happy New Year tidings to one and all!

Spent my New Year with the family shooting guns and devouring seafood. I had to eschew one party invite and make only a token appearance at the Luper party, but I m a slave to tradition. Between us and Jason s drunken friends we probably blasted five or six hundred rounds into a nearby dirtpile. The area around my parents has exploded with developments in recent years so I m sure we terrified quite a few recently ruralized families. Sweet.

Nothing rings in the New Year like the warm report of a Kalishnikov.

As for reflections on 2004, well, it s been a year packed with some of the best and worst days of my life so I m not sure how to feel about that. I m hoping 05 starts better than 04 ended. Guess we ll see.

In any case happy 2005 to one and all!
