Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

What a weekend! I am King of the World. Or at least Crown Prince of the World. I ll settle for the latter. Had a great couple of days in AC with Meghan and Probie. We all did great on the craps tables. I faired the best, ending up somewhere around plus 320 for the weekend. I beat down Probie at Ping Pong and then dominated the Krimpet Kup BloodBowl tourney.

Nice.

Here s an indicator of just how lucky I have been this weekend... This afternoon I drove over to the mall to pic up BF2 Spec Ops with some of the free money winnings (since I missed the gun show in York). I don t usually buy anything with cash but I had a bunch of fresh AC bills in my wallet, so I grabbed a fistful of change out of my ash tray in hopes of getting rid of some it (especially pennies) before it overflowed onto my car s floor.

Anyway, my total bill for the game: $31.79. The change I randomly grabbed from my car: 2 quarters, 1 dime, 2 nickels, 9 pennies. I am not fucking kidding you. 79 cents exactly!

I am a lucky bastard.

Now I need to get back to reigning over the world.

I ve stated it before. I desperately try to avoid posting external links in BampfBlog(tm) land for a multitude of reasons. But I chanced on an article that I just had to share.

Top 10 Sci Fi Movies Never Made

Note the very critical 'N' in the link above.

As someone who has ranted endlessly about the pure unadulterated idiocy of the Hollywood movie-making machine this is a peice of genius from a kindred spirit.

So check it out.

In other news, Kent called me earlier today in a moment of crazed hysteria claiming that a new BF2 patch was released. One that supposedly fixes many of the glaring problems with that game (you know the game that took the sweetest FPS engine ever imagined and then did all in its power to make the game excrucuiating to actually play). We ll see. If what he says is true the game might actually be fun now. I m reserving judgement but it could be huge.

At long last, the BampfBlog(tm) Quote of the Day is truly that. Previously every user would get their own quote for their particular session. Wasn t really a true Quote of the Day... well no more. Through the miracle of BampfBlog(tm) technology, there is one quote per day for the whole world (which is of course clamboring to read my site). I will note the quotes are on random though, so it s not going to cycle through all of them in turn. That s by design.

So, anyway. Enjoy. Feel free to comment on individual quotes as everyone will now know what you are referring to.

I also added a couple more while I was poking around the code so keep a keen eye and maybe you ll spot them.

I feel vindicated, again. Just about every respectable sports writer I ve come across has heaped support on the SuperBowl officials. Prisco and Judge, the two main analysts from Sportsline.com both came out in support of the officials. Especially the textbook pass interference and Ben s TD. Gregg Easterbrook, of TMQ fame, probably the most cerebral editorialist you ll find (and my favorite) came out with similar sentiments. Ironically, a day after I made my physics based argument, he too, referenced the physics of the play clearly indicating pass interference... Newton s Third Law is immutable guys... no amount of whining will change that, Mr Holmgren.

From what I can tell, it s denial soaked Seahawks fans and the loud mouthed morons of talk radio making all the fuss. As I said... Much Ado.

As mentioned in the Wanderer s comment in the Big Ole SuperBowl thread, got to play some raquetball last night. Good times! Hamstring s a bit tight. Got some soreness. Definitely gotta a ways to go to get back into decent shape. Puts a damper on my plans to return to the rugby field for now.

Thought I made a good showing for myself too, despite not having played in years. May join up with Wanderer and Piz and try to make it a regular thing. Must get back in shape. The trick will be convincing Kent to join. He seems to have become quite attached to his extra pounds.

The highlight of the night was Piz trying to avoid his own return and in doing so lept into the air to bring his genitals directly into the path of the ball. Priceless. It beat out my return where I managed to graze Wanderer s ear and cheek (without changing the flight of the ball or damaging the Wanderer s face)... that s pretty impressive.

PS Did I mention the Steelers are World Champs??

Pure elation!!

World Friggin Champions!

What a game. I was trembling with excitement and anxiety. What a game.

Anyone who predicted a Seahawk win deserves a nice solid punch in the mouth, for they truly know nothing about football.

I still think the Seahawks were badly outmatched pretty much across the board. They d never been in a fight like that all season. The rate at which we were killing their players was further evidence of that.

Oddly enough it seemed like the Steelers biggest edge was in coaching. What was up with Holmgren... was he even paying attention to the game?

Before anyone starts about questionable calls, I d have to say that easily the most questionable call of the day was the Jerramy (Softie) Stevens fumble. Ben s TD... definitely a TD. The push off... definitely pass interference. The holds... definitely holds. The only real bad call was the 15 yarder on Hasselback s tackle and all that call did was make the Randel El TD pass 15 yards shorter.

Ben was definitely shaky... but the three drops didn t help. I think the notoriously slick SuperBowl balls combined with the glove he has to wear due to his thumb injury may have been a contributing factor. If you watch, on the overthrown pass to Nate Washington and on the two interceptions, the ball had a very bad wobble, looking like the ball slipped out of his hand as much as anything. No glove and maybe those throws are tight spirals and on target.

Anyway, he still made some masterful plays and he s a world champ. He s gonna break a lot of records by time he is done. It s time for a new dynasty. I honestly think we have a good chance to come back and do it all over again in the next couple of years. We ve certainly laid the foundation.

God, what a wonderful day.

Also, Kent made a cubic shit-ton of awesome food. Nice touch for a grand evening.

OK, here s the sick thing. If the Steelers win tommorrow (which they really should), I m giving very serious consideration to buying the NFL s Opus Super Bowl XL mega book.

Have you seen this thing? Over 900 pages, over 2000 high gloss photos, weighing in at almost 90 pounds. It s amazing.

Opus Super Bowl XL

The price tag? A cool 4 Grand.

Very serious consideration...

I promised I would give my reasons why the Pittsburg Steelers will be World Champions in less than 48 hours. So here we go.

Really, the main thing is we are a much better team. The Seahawks record is a product of the easist schedule in football. Anyone who knows anything about the NFL knows the Seahawks are horribly outmanned. They beat one playoff team in the regular season... the NY Giants (a playoff team only in the strictest sense of the word as it has been proven the Giants were a bad team in a shitty division) and they beat the Giants only by virtue of three missed game winning FGs by the Giants. Sad.

Sure, they looked good in their two playoff games, but they beat on two decent teams that were both horribly dinged. Both the Skins and Panthros limped into those games. No such luck this week, Seattle.

Their offensive numbers are good... but anybody s offensive numbers will look good when half your schedule consists of San Fran, St Louis, Arizona and Houston.

Their defense has looked mediocre at best... against awful teams. I don t see them being able to stop our offense at all. They may stack up the run by overcommitting safeties, but doing so will expose them horribly. They re just not good enough to stop us.

They have beaten noboby (unless you count the Colt s third stringers as a good team).

We, on the other hand, have beaten five teams that are better than them, hand s down. And we beat them handily. We are rolling.

Don t get me wrong, the Seahawks are a good team (the only good team in the NFC) but that makes them maybe the 8th best team in football. They haven t been challenged all season and I think they are gonna be shocked on Sunday. Welcome to the majors.

So I am confidant we will win this game. I am a bit anxious though, just because it is the SuperBowl. You never know how players will react in that grandest of stages. Both teams are chocked with young players with effectively zero SuperBowl experience... so that is a huge X-factor. If Big Ben goes in nervous and tight, we ll be in trouble. If the team is relaxed and under control I think it will be smooth sailing.

I m just hoping that is that case.

Anyway. My honest prediction is the Steelers will win by at least two scores. 31-17 is my prediction and I picture the game going down much like the Denver game, only Hassleback won t break down as completely as Jake the Snake.

SuperBowl MVP... Jerome Bettis. If he scores 1 TD he ll be the odds on favorite... two short yardage TDs and he s a shoo-in. His story is just too good.

So this is my exhaustive football report. One last note... how was Jim Mora ever a coach in the NFL? No wonder his teams always sucked. They ve had him on NFL Network and every time that man opens his mouth he embarasses himself. It s ridiculous.

All right. Rich Eisen is still my hero, but now I wanna be Joey Porter when I grow up! He pulled out the Doc Holliday Tombstone reference on Jeremy Stevens today... he told him he d be his Huckleberry!

That is fucking awesome.

Let us all pause in quite reverence to the Hog. For it is his day. And what a grand day it is.

But do not cross or disrespect the Hog, nor his prophet, Bill Murray, or you will rue the day.

So there.

It had to be said.

PS Tune in tommorrow when I enumerate why the Stillers will crush the Seahawks.

OK. I ve come to a decision that I need to share with the masses.

Rich Eisen is my new hero. He is who I want to be when I grow up.

Sorry Conan and Alton Brown... you guys have been bumped.

Bless you, Rich. Bless you.
