Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

I know Evan has mentioned this already but it may have been lost amongst his litany of falsehoods and blasphemies, so I ll say it again... go see Sin City this weekend. I recommend twice on Friday and at least once more Saturday or Sunday. That s what I m shooting for.

I m really convinced this is gonna be the greatest movie ever. At the very least it should be the greatest comic book movie ever. I know I m really setting myself up for disappointment here, but I need this. I don t think I ever truly recovered from the unbearable poopiness of Episode 1.

So go see it! Seriously. Go.

In other news, the house is slowly coming together. Bought some more furniture yesterday in an attempt to get the TV room organized. The Kent is moving the remainder of his belongings in as I type and my back-ordered bed is now in (so my bedroom can soon be complete as well). Nice.

House livin has been grand so far. Good movies, good food, good company. Plus I m happy about my now truncated Philly drive... starting in Hbg is huge compared to west of Carlisle.

So, at long last, I watched the extended DVD version of the Return of the King last night. I purchased the thing the day it was released but made a very difficult executive decision not to watch it until I could do so with a befitting sound and video experience. It was an impressive show of willpower on my part to last so long.

Anyway, the DVD was pretty impressive. Some of the extended scenes were really dazzling. Other were clearly superfulous and good cuts. There were a number of gaping plot holes that were nicely filled in. Likewise there were scenes that I thought really didn t work (Saruman s scene) or was just silly and excessive (the dwarf v elf drinking contest). A number of the added battle scenes were really great (like Eowyn and Aragorn fighting the gimped orc). It was a bit irratating that some of these scenes were cut and nothing was trimmed from the six endings (which I didn t mind, but was a sticking point for a lot of less devoted movie goers).

In any case, the movie is still outstanding, and an amazing finale to an incredible series (Lucas who?). There s been some talk of a back to back to back LotR movie day... I m still very excited about that. I m also anxious to watch the discs full of additional features which have been really amazing on the previous releases.

In current event news, Johnny Cochran died... so no more Wookie defenses to free blatant murderers. Yay!

There s also apparently some chick that s in a coma or something in Florida. Details are sketchy... I wish the media would spend a little more time on this story so I can know what s going on.

That is all.

So I guess a new update is long overdue. Have an excuse for my lack of posting this time... I ve been busy! Very busy.

We re in the house and still getting settled in. So far everything has been great. Only a few minor snafus encountered along the way.

Tuesday I awoke from my first night at the house to let the carpet cleaner in. The cleaning ended up costing a lot more than expected but I was glad to have it done. The carpets really needed it. The difference was incredible. At one point he did half of the den and called me in. There was a line clearly demarking the clean from the unclean. It was crazy... we re not talking a couple of shades of difference in color... we re talking off white and out and out gray! Nasty. The TV also arrived on Tuesday. Beautiful beautiful TV. So big. So awesome. More on that later.

Wednesday was a major moving day for me. My entire family happened to be available so there were plenty of bodies to pitch in and things went pretty smoothly despite the thrice accursed heavy rainfall. At the time they were calling for five days of wetness so I saw no benefit in delaying for a dry day... of course, invariably, the following day was beautiful and sunny. Damn you, Chuck Rhoades! Damn you to hell!

Thursday was mostly an unpacking day and a Comcast day. We re gonna have a hefty Comcast bill... but hey they provide much of our entertainment and for me my livlihood so can t complain too much.

I m sure something happened Friday, but I can t recall what. I beleive just lots of shopping and getting organized. There were snausages on the grill. That much a remember. Mmm... snausages. And movies on da big screen... sweet sweet hi def big screen.

Saturday was to be a painting and work day and I had lots of offers from lots of people to come and help. However by time everyone arrived, it was pretty late in the evening, so we settled on a Home Depot run to build a gaming table. Table turned out OK. Not bad although it s very evident it was not done by professionals.

As the night progressed more people came and went and the XBox was firing on all gears thanks to jkarr bringing some games over (all were transfixed by the games on da big screen). Trying to remember who all was present to make a headcount- Bastius, Jkarr, Colin, Stoner, Shane, Evan, Ben, Brandon (Lord Humungous), Erica... man, counting Kent and I that s 11 people. Nice.

Easter Sunday was spent gorging with the family. Always a good time. Loaded my car up with yet another trip s worth of crap (still got a lot of books and such to be moved once I pick up some book shelves) and headed home for some more movie watching on da big screen.

Monday was working and UFC watching (on da big screen in hi def), followed by some gun shopping for Kent. More guns means more iron. The number of guns in the house is growing at a nice steady pace. I am pleased with this. Probably do some shooting some time this week. Good stuff.

So, in summary. The house is great. I m loving it. No regrets and I m excited about the future. There are many plans for many new and fun things. Oh and did I mention we got a kick ass big screen?

Pretty crazy weekend. House preparations, Gun shows, BloodBowl, shooting, packing, sleeping. All kinds of stuff.

Big one was the house, of course. Took possession on Sunday and gave guided tours to Kent, Bastius and Evan in two different visits. No unforeseen snafus. The house could use a bit more cleaning than I might have hoped but if that s the biggest surprise, I ll gladly deal. The sellers apologized as logistical problems had their cleaners there before they were able to move out their crap leading to some unclensed areas.

Unloaded my first carload of crap Sunday night with many more trips to follow. Wednesday will be a major moving day. So if anyone is available during the day or evening, let me know and I ll give details. Saturday will be the other moving/painting day so again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If all goes as planned everything should be pretty much in and situated by Easter Sunday. Exciting times. Been having many discussions with the Kent on our plans and aspirations... they be lofty. If we follow through with half of them life should be pretty sweet.

Tonight I pick up my newly purchased mattress and spend the night for the first time. Historic. This will allow me to meet the carpet cleaner first thing tommorrow morning and then more importantly welcome the 55" LCD Sony WEGA projection TV to its new home! Yes.

As for other weekend activities... bought a lot of ammo at the gun show and also convinced Colin to buy his first gun. He now joins the Defiler and myself as proud Cetme owners. Such a sweet weapon. We even braved the rain on Sunday to do a little impromptu shooting with Bastius. Good stuff. No pirates were harmed this time but a viking, aliens, dinosaurs and a certain special troll were amongst the many assault rifle casualties.

Stoner and Evan have both committed themselves to gun ownership as well. At this rate we ll have our own little militia in no time flat. Sweet. We ll be obliged to come up with some nutjob cult-worthy ideology once we get to that point. Nice.

Enough ranting for now. Again, anybody able to lend a hand on Wednesday or Saturday please let me know. I appreciate any offers, in advance.

Finally, finally, finally... Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is being released to DVD. Release date is next week, so everyone should go out and pre-order it now! Seriously. It s one of my favorite plays and one of my favorite movies... easily made my top 10 all time (see the list at left if ya don t beleive me). This movie is unbelievably good. Funny, engaging, profound and downright silly with superb performances by Tim Roth, Gary Oldman and Richard Dreyfus. So, go order... do it!

Two eventful weekends in a row. Huzzah, look at me. Top o the world, ma.

Friday I met up with the Wanderer and we took in Hotel Rwanda at the Midtown Cinema. Not a bad little place. Tiny screens and viewing rooms, but I ll deal as long it provides a venue for Indy/arthouse films that I so desperately desire (recall my lifelong goal to be an effete movie snob). Movie itself was quite good. Seen it described as an African Schindler's List and that s an accurate appellation. Powerful stuff.

Slept in Saturday and then saw Be Cool that night with Stoner and Swalty "One Nut" Waldemeyer. Not a bad film (far better than Blade:Trinity, don t beleive bp s drug induced rantings). I recall being luke warm over the original so really I just went to see The Rock s performance and he did not disappoint. He is the man. Afterward I took great glee in crushing Evan (and others) at History of the World... re-affirming the dominance of the Great Red Menace.

Sunday I did some shooting with Colin. Twas good to get back out on the range. The AK was getting a bit rusty (figuratively and literally) so we blasted away for a great while shooting at pirates, ninjas, vampires, Yoda and Cthulu amongst other more mundane targets. I think Colin is hooked on the gun ownership thing... not unlike crack it only takes one free trial to get people hooked on the glory of the Kalishnikov. I can name about 6 or 7 people who went out and bought their own after firing mine.

On the house front, settlement has been moved up to Thursday. So soon! It s madness. Move in will probably start mid to late next week. There may be a painting day Tuesday or Wednesday evening if people are available. Let me know!

The official move-in will probably be Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th. So, again, who s available?

I figure I ll settle in in stages. No real hurry.

Exciting times ahead. There s already talk of movie nights, roleplaying games, console gaming, all kinds of fun. Sweet.

This is for my own benefit more than anyone else s, but I wanted to make a list of things I need to buy...

Big Ass TV (actually Kent is kinda buying) DONE
Stand for Big Ass TV
Sofas/Chairs/Love seats for three rooms (den, game room, living room-- have one set, have some leads on several more)
Grill (this is a condition of Kent practicing his finely tuned culinary arts)
Coffee Maker
Paint and other assorted minor home repair/touch-up gear
A bunch of Lysol and other smelly stuff (previous owners had dogs)
Some kind of light fixture for my dim shower
Bigger Switch/Router DONE
Lumber/Supplies for 6'x4' gaming table.
Book Cases

That may be about it. Will add more as I think of em.

House settlement is in less than ten days! It s madness. Things are just flying by. I m very anxious about it. Still a lot of question marks. Still hoping I have the funds to buy everything I need. May need to hold off on minor improvements for a while (like paint for my muave/pink bedroom). We ll see. At this point I just want a space of my own. Been a long time since I had that. I m also really excited about watching movies again. I haven t been doing much of that lately due to the lack of a decent A/V set-up. All that will be remedied. Soon, so soon.

If anybody knows of anyone looking to get rid of sofas/chairs/loveseats, let me know. That s the one thing I m gonna be desperately short on and have no desire to dish out real money for nice new ones.

I ll be sending out a general cry for help some time soon. I don t have a definite move date yet as it s still unclear when the current owners will be out. It may be as soon as Monday the 21, at the latest Saturday the 26th. A handful of people have already offered assistance so that is cool.

In other news, the Wanderer has returned to the blogging fold after an extended absence (nearly 3 years!!!). Welcome back, fool. Poor Blog Friends table has become a rotating door.

Into the mouth of madness for us this weekend. Nothing like starting an AC trip at 10 pm, but that s exactly what Stoner, Evan, the Defiler and myself did Friday. Damn fine trip despite us losing our pants. Coldest... craps... dice... ever. Even Stoner got in on the pants losing action by getting nailed doing 91 on the turnpike. Funny, considering I make that turnpike trip once a week, speeding unabashedly all the while and it s Stoner driving my car that gets the ticket. D'oh. Hopefully that doesn t sour AC for him.

Amidst the pants loss, we did manage to walk most of the boardwalk, giving Stoner an intro to the AC late night sites and sounds. Good stuff. The car trip was a blast (save the getting pulled over bit) and I think everyone is at least relatively eager to try it again in the future.

Much of the rest of the weekend was spent trying to make up for lost sleep and apologizing to my biological clock. Did get to see some people though... managed to squeeze in an Angies trip where Ryan made his first appearance in a long while (tis the site of his greatest glory) and Josh made his inaugural appearance (complete with Zingo... in accordance with tradition). Also ran into Stan... who s back in town breifly following basic before he gets sent off to God knows where to kill God knows who. Imperative to spend some quality time with him this week.

Amidst all the madness I did manage several games of BloodBowl, of which I won most. Remember, BloodBowl is life.

So it s March already, eh? Man, when did that happen? Good news is settlement in 2 weeks! Nice. Move in will be shortly thereafter. Things are flying by. Hope I m ready. Still have a lot of stuff to buy.

Bought a new matress. Bought a new bedroom suite. Pretty nice stuff. Paid a bit more than I wanted to but it seemed like a decent deal so I paid the extra for the one I really liked. Still a bunch more stuff to buy before the house will be anywhere near complete. Hopefully my funds hold out. Might take some time. Although... Tyler Durden does urge us to never be complete.

In other news, this weekend is shaping up to look like a lot of fun. Plan is to make a late night AC trip tonight. Should be a blast. Lots of BloodBowl over the weekend, as the March league should be able to build up much momentum. May even do some shooting with The Defiler Sunday. We ll see.

As for all the horrible shite that s been going on (that I obliquely reference on occasion), well it s still there. Looks like I may be forced to close a couple of significant chapters of my life. Sucks, but you move on. I m doing my best to push it to the back of my mind and press on!

Oh yeah, one other thing I forgot to mention... I called 911 last week. Never did that before. I was pretty excited. I was driving home on 81 in the wee morning hours and got behind a guy who could not stay in his lane for more than a second or two... he was in both lanes, the shoulder... all over. So I called the cops on him. Hopefully they nabbed the bastard and gave him a right proper Rodney King-ing before he killed anybody.

Well, enough for now. Merry weekend, all.
