Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

Man, I forgot all about Friday in my weekend synopsis. Friday was Dr Who day! I though the new Doctor was awesome. A bit more Hitchhiker s Guide than the original, but hey... not like that s a bad thing!

I love that they kept the theme music (again, a bit updated) and that the TARDIS has the old sound effects. I m really looking forward to this series. Is this guy Tom Baker? No, not yet... but he could be.

And in a completely unrelated note, apparently the Cowboys are back on their "we want to be the most hated team in football" stance... signing the guy who pooped on their sacred Star. Like to hear Chad s take on this one...

Gotta go, making meatloaf.

Mmm... meatloaf.

Been a wondrous couple of days.

Started things right on Thursday with a pre-release screening of V. I thought the movie was exellent and easily one of the best comic adaptations to date (I d put it ahead of Hellboy and Batman Begins but behind Sin City). I thought the movie did a good job sticking to its source material (not panel for panel Sin City duplication) but many scenes were directly from the comic and the spirit of the original (albeit updated) was there throughout. Wasn t til the ending that we got serious deviations. Don t know what Alan Moore s problem was... of course the guy is a certified loon. Brilliant, but a loon.

Saturday I ventured down to Cold Wars with erion and erion jr. We weren t there a terribly long time but it was cool to see the convention again for the first time in years. Used to be we d be there every year. The flea market was pretty disappointing (a fraction of the size it used to be) so alas no great deals on gaming flotsam to be had but I did pick up a few odds and ends in the Dealer room... including a copy of The Gamers... so damn funny. Rest of Saturday was spent gaming on the PC and futily trying to get Probie s PC to work so that we could kill Americans with him.

Sunday was the gun show. Gaming and Gun Conventions on back to back days... how do you beat that? Anyway, we introduced Probie to the grand gun culture, Evan made his first firearm purchase, and I picked up some ammo (although somehow every vendor had sold out of 7.62x39... seems everyone has an AK these days).

Afterward, with Bastius, Tom, Evan and Probie, we visited Bastius s shitty gun range for some mad blasting! It was glorious. I m still a bit heady from the sweet inhalation of gun powder.

Sunday night we were reunited with our wayward BloodBowl ringer, Tipping and made many nafarious plans for future online BloodBowling. Good stuff. Looking forward to some good ole BB smack talk with him.

All in all, an excellent weekend.

Yeah, I ve been a lazy bastard as of late. Little to report or say. Highlights of the last couple of weeks...

Joy was returned to a grim and gloomy world as the CBA was signed at the absolute 11th hour.

Saw UltraViolet with Kent-- some cool action scenes jammed into a shitty movie... about what I expected.

Did some shooting with Tom (aka Little Big Tom). Got to shoot his Mauser... sweet. Finally sited in the AR-15... sweet.

Started playing on FUMBBL. I may become an addict. All BloodBowl... all the time. Scary.

I have advanced to the AGBBL Championship game! About time, considering I m probably the best player in the league and have taken an early exit every post-season to this point (a.k.a. I have shrugged of the Peyton "Chokasaurus Rex" Manning Complex). Anyway, Go Mandelbrot s Minions!

V for Vendetta tonight! I m excited!

That s about it. No football makes me sad as I ravenously follow free-agency. Steelers are fine. No Randel-El isn t a big hit (save maybe on special teams and gadget plays), and we ve already replaced Chris Hope. Brett Keisel is an upgrade to an aging Kimo (especially if Brett shows equal proficiency at damaging Carson Palmer ligaments). I think we re looking good for a repeat as all our competitors are having their teams glutted (Colts, Pats, Broncos, Chargers all suffering major free agency losses). Of course the AFC North is getting scarier as Cleveland goes on a wild spending spree. Hafta see how the draft goes. We should get some compensatory picks... that ll help offset drafting 32nd.

It s also good to see some talent leave the conference. The NFC is in desperate need of a boost to get themselves out of triple-A status.

In other news Isaac Hayes left South Park claiming he was leaving due to 'religous intolerance.' Hm. No surprise, he s one of the fucking Scientology retards and was sick of the show railing on his crackpot companions (dum dum dum dum dum). Funny he was OK with Jesus being a regular character and the episode where we learn that Catholicism is ruled by a giant spider-demon. But only now he thinks the show is insensitive toward people s religous convictions. Trey Parker had a great quote in response saying how Hayes wanted a different standard for Scientology than all other religions and that is where 'religious intolerance' begins. Awesome. Even better... next week is the new season premeire, so you know those guys will kill of Chef in some kind of hideous and ignoble manner... I can t wait.

Talk about highest highs and lowest lows. Steelers World Champs, release of Tommy Maddox and now suddenly we re on the precipice of football becoming shitty and horrocious like baseball, hockey and basketball.

What have we done to deserve this? We ve been loyal. We ve disregarded all those other sports in favor of the one true League.

I can t help but feel this whole thing is almost exclusively due to Jerry Jones. I just see him salivating at the chance to be Texas s Steinbrenner. He and his ilk (you know, the kind of owners that are keen to sue the NFL for trying to instant fair and balanced policies) hafta be at the root of this.

Chad, you know him better than most... it s him isn t it?

Oh ye football gods, I beseech thee, grant us a new CBA.

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

It s official. Everyone knew it was coming, but now it s official... the Steelers released Tommy "Worst QB to Ever Play the Game" Maddox!! My elation is on par with that felt on Super Bowl Sunday! Thank God!

Good riddance you worthless peice of shite! I shall hate you forever! If only we could somehow keep him from getting a SuperBowl ring since he did everything he could to derail our magic season.

I hate you Tommy Maddox.
