Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

All right. This is my first entry in my new Blog. Please ignore colors and aesthetics as I m still working on that. I just wanted to get the mechanics wroking first.

So anyway... why blog? Here are my reasons:

Well first a couple of my pals (Digger and Evan namely) got their own and the idea kind of grew on me... maybe I was jealous.

Maybe I just decided I could write a blog program and wanted the challenge (bless you ASP, bless you).

More importantly I like the idea of having a journal/record that I can look back on. Years down the road it ll be nice to read old entries.

I also am enamored with the idea of giving myself a public forum. A place to rant and rave. A place where I can jot down any new revolutionary ideas that may pass through my brain.

BampfBlog (tm) has a nice ring to it. Dontcha think?

Last reason, and maybe the most influential... Doogie Howser. Remember how Doogie had a journal on his computer and would moralize at the end of every show... well I wanna be like Doogie... after all he got to become a cool ass SS officer Psycher! How sweet is that!? I dare to dream.

Enough for entry #1.

Look ma, twice in one day.

OK, I m back already. I m already seeing where I can make improvements to this format. Having a title would be nice... d'oh. And eventually I ll get around to implementing an actual forum so my teeming millions of followers can add there wit to the mix.

Anyway... I ve made a $90,000 commitment today... that s uh... uh... HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Yeah... that about sums it up. Scary stuff. But I m equally excited. In a couple months I just may have a house. I can play Bob Villa and shit. Freaky. There s a spare bedroom... so all my peeps can come hang in Philly! No more getting back from Moby concerts at 3:30 am. Cool.

I just need to buy some smaller firearms... I d feel better being well armed whilst in Philly and carrying an AK-47 around creates some impracticality issues.

I should mention, this is all a little down the road... I ll be in the area for at least a couple more months.

Added note: forgive the lame link below. It s actually a self creating table that will automatically create a seperate link for each month s entries... it just looks real stupid with only the one current entry.

Well, enough for now. More later... I figure i gotta add a bunch of entries to make this a respectable blog asap.

D'oh. Well, just as I agreed to the terms offered by the seller of the house we re interested in, some other commie bastard puts an offer in as well. Now the seller is completely in the driver s seat... able to play us against each other. Well, I m not entering into a bidding war and drastically overpaying. If 90k was good enough for him yesterday (which it was) it better damn well be good enough for him tomorrow.

As the good doctor once said, "Don't take any guff from those fucking swine."

So there.

So, last night, Kristyn calls me out on my literary knowledge. Despite my claims to be well read, she was keen to point out some glaring gaps in my repertoire. When she brought up Heart of Darkness, my defense was that I don t read modern novels. Not realizing that HoD was written around the turn of the century. Huh. I knew Apocolypse Now was based on it and always assumed it was written in the Viet Nam era. I feel like such a fool. Seems like Coppolla and John Milius (yes of Conan fame) deserve even more credit than I previously thought for creating such a brilliant film.

Anyway, back to the subject... I must profess my ignorance to the world. I m not the literature snob I purport to be. I m a fraud. Woe is me. But I read a lot of comics when I was younger. I mean a LOT of comics. That counts for something right?

There goes my plan to hang out with effete Bohemian coffee house crowds of Philadelphia. "Best laid plans o' mice an' men..."

To complete the line: "Violence rules! Guns are cool! And we ve got guns in our schools!" Hard to beleive those lyrics were written in the early 80s. Who d have thunk it... Dead Milkmen as the Nostradamus of our time.

18 dead in Germany. Something is really wrong with our society. Nice though to see it happen in a state that has serious firearm regulations. The thrice accursed gun control people can t say guns being readily available is the cause. Maybe they ll notice a few of the more deep seated problems.

Nice also to see that Europeans have so fervently embraced all the horrors of US culture: Pop Music, celebrity deification, reality TV, sit-coms, school shootings... Note I listed them in order of descending horror magnitude...

Considering all those factors I would seriously question any teen who isn t angst ridden.

Whole bloody mess is pretty depressing.

I blame the Beatles and Jim Carey. So there.

Well, I went to the Gettysburg College annual physics picnic. Rippin party, let me tell ya. Funny to see how things around the college have changed. Make me feel so antiquated. Of course some things are exactly the same. The picnic spread was identical to what they served when I was a student. Weird. Other item of note: physicists in large groups are frighteningly dull. Big shocker there huh? Oh well- food was good.

This one s gonna be a short one. Dinner and movie time... Kristyn and I are relishing our last couple opportunities to do the date thing before the looming financial destitude... damn mortgage.

Toodles.

4/29/2002 11:40:56 AM         Goulash of the GodsAdd Comment
Not too bad of a weekend. Got to spend some quality time with mah baby. Watched some DVDs, slept in... you know, the good stuff. Sunday I made a batch (and instructed Kristyn on the finer arts of preperation) of Goulash. OK, it s actually no where near the traditional definition of goulash. More of a hamburger based stew, but it s always been referred to as goulash in my family and has been for quite a few generations (at least three, probably more). Who am I to break with tradition? Tasty tradition, at that. This was after a fine Red Lobster dining experience the previous day (ever notice you really can t eat there without feeling like Mr. Creasote from The Meaning of Life?). Luckily, I m playing tennis today to help retard the fattening process.

We re still anxiously awaiting word on the house. The seller seems to be keen to take his good ole time. He has become the object of quite a bit of ire from Kristyn, myself, and her family.

Back to the news... seems like a lot of celebrities are dying as of late. I can t stress enough how much a support the untimely death of celebrities and psuedo-celebrities. That goes double for anyone remotely associated with the "hip-hop" industry. For each one that keels over we get that much closer to the next step of human evolution. (this message brought to you by the church of Tyler Durden)

Well, I got go pay some bills before my lunch is over. Later.

Just got word. No house for us. The other buyers made an offer apparently considerably higher than ours. So we re back to the drawing board. Kinda sucks. Kristyn had fallen in love with the place, unfortunately. Oh well. There ll be other houses. And most of them won t require me to be so damn handy. I have soft girly white collar hands that must be retained! Oops, maybe I shouldn t have mentioned that. Putting my thug image in serious jeopardy.

Oh well. In the sage like words of Popeye - "I y'am what I y'am."

I m just getting older by the minute. Played three sets of tennis and next thing I know I ve got a couple of frozen cube steaks taped to my knees. They feel a little better now. Blessed blessed steers... you ve served me in so many ways.

Of course having a fiance 8 years your minor doesn t make you feel any younger. Spending a lot of time on two different college campuses only exacerbates it further. I need to start hanging out with more old people... thank God I ve got Kent.

No time to write more... I m playing webmaster to three different sites and trying to find Philly jobs all in one sitting. Taxing. Especially for one of my advanced years.
