| | Tonight is Hitchhiker's Guide! Sweet. The Hitchhiker series is still probably my favorite books of all time. Kinda silly since it s been ages since I read them. I had grand intentions of re-reading the series before the movie came out, but those were badly waylaid. I m way behind in my reading. In part because a lot of my books are still boxed up awaiting book shelf purchases. Poor abandoned books.
Anyway, I m excited for the movie. Sin City and now Hitchhiker's Guide. That s a sweet 1-2 punch. Plus the previews for the Ridley Scott crusades movie I keep seeing look awesome.
Maybe movies are gonna become good again. Wouldn t that be grand?
So everybody... go see Hitchhiker! I assure you it will be better than the old BBC series.

| I dunno. Maybe spammers are getting more and more intelligent and I was somehow marked as being in the physics geek demographic. Cause I got a Spam email today with the following subject:
An erection is like the Theory of Relativity: the more you think about it, the harder it gets.
Seriously. What has the world come to? Einsteinian mechanics as a viagra marketing tool? Don t know if I should be elated or disgusted...
Sigh.
-b | | | Last night for dinner I made some creamed chip beef over toast. Forgot just how fantastic homemade SOS was. Talk about the purest simple pleasure. So damn good. Can t beleive Kent doesn t like the stuff. I figured a gourmand like he would love the stuff. Oh well.
Mowed the lawn for the first time. Took longer than I expected. Last lawn I mowed was the postage stamp sized one in Ridley Park... this one s a bit more of an undertaking. I hate mowing. That s OK, though. Evan moves in this weekend and that may be one of many forced labor duties awaiting him. Surprise, buddy!
Watched some of my backlog of TiVO d Adult Swim last night with Evan. My God, that stuff is brilliant. Home Movies, AQTHF, Venture Brothers. So damn funny. Thank you basic cable for making a TV worth owning. God knows I would have shot my TV long ago if forced to watch the network dreck they feed to the slack-jawed masses.
As for the weekend, it was a grand affair of BloodBowl and draft excitement. My Punchin Pugilists debutted with two Ws. Tonight I ll probably play Scheaf with my other team, the Rivendale River Raiders aka The TreeTop Terrors aka KY Presents the Fagmos the Jerky Elves for Jerks. Good stuff.
Saturday we had our first session of Colin s D20 Modern game. Blasted some terrorists (I fear at some point the whole campaign may just devolve into nothing but a long succession of bad towel-head jokes, but I guess that s the risk we re gonna have to take). Overall, it was pretty cool. Also, I defeated both Stoner and Evan in chess in rapid succession after the game... although there were some accusations that maybe the cat took Stoner s rook, crippling him for our game. Good cat.
I ll comment on the draft briefly... Steelers had another fine draft. Shoring up all our needs nicely and I think we ll be better than last year, where we were, of course, easily the most dominant team in football (post-season not withstanding).
That s all for now.
-bampf | | | How s this for a bit of serendipity? Yesterday Kent asks where I m gonna get a lawn mower, as the lawn is starting to get out of control. I tell em I ll do some searching for a used one this weekend. I run to the store and when I get back my neighbor has a mower in his front yard with a For Sale sign on it. Nice. So I got a cheap mower with basically a verbal waranty (neighbor s real handy).
In other news, the draft is this weekend. That means football is coming! Sweet sweet football. I had the combine on today in background. How sad is that? Life may never be the same now that I have the NFL network.
-bampf | | | Looks like I ll be all over the place in the coming months. Games Day in Baltimore. Death Cup BloodBowl Tournament in DC. Business trip to Michigan. Return to Boston for Beantown Brouhaha II in late June. All that and there are some early rumblings of a GenCon trip. How cool would that be?
It s madness I tell ya.
Also, go play God of War. I beat it last night (much to Kent s chagrin) and it s an amazing action game. A new bar has been set. Go play it.
-bampf | | | Kent and I returned triumphantly from the Philly Phrakus BloodBowl Tournament heavy with loot and trophies. Oh yeah.
We had a really good time. Good tournament, good competition. I went undefeated, but garnered 2 ties, one in a game I clearly should have won. That one tie kept me from the championship round. So I instead took the Tournament MVP... or first loser award. Nice big trophy though. I also won Best Painted. That was cool. I ve now won Best Painted with two different teams at the two biggest tournies I ve attended. There was some serious competition this time too. Kent won the Rocky Balboa award and got a nice big trophy for causing the most casualties with his Ogres. Sweet.
We had a great time Saturday night as a bunch of the BloodBowlers came back to our place for some tasty victuals and some bloody UFC action. Good times for all. Closest thing we ve had to some kind of organized gathering at the house so it was kinda cool.
With the BloodBowl league in full swing now this weekend promises to bring even more games. Nice.
BloodBowl is Life. (even Reaper Pimps like Erion is discovering this)
-bampf | | | Has it really been a week since my last update? Wow. How did that happen? Somebody s a friggin slacker.
So what has been going on? Stuff. I think.
The Spring BloodBowl has started so that has been a major drain on my time. Lot of work preparing materials, working on the website. We have a record turn-out. Exciting exciting times.
Many new additions to the house since last I posted. Picked up a bunch of chairs for the gaming room. Bought a desk chair for myself. Brought a bunch more stuff from my parents- including chairs for the kitchen table, a gun cabinet, boxes of books, my PS2, and three suitcases full of old comics. The Doyles contributed a loveseat and a sofa (with hide-a-sleeper) which means Kent s horribly broken down futon can be put to rest after this weekend (vaya con dios amigo). From Shippensburg I got my chest freezer, some of my artwork and another cat (more on the cat later). And lastly my bed arrived. The thing is huge. But it is awesome.
My mom, sister and grandmother all came down to pitch in. So that was cool. Every time I turned my back they immediately started cleaning. I think I may have my mom to the point where she s no longer terrified to drive to Harrisburg (it is the big city y know)... never mind that I m fifteen blocks from the city limit... country folk.
On the cat front, seems that somehow I ended up with custody of Kristyn s Himalayan, Sadie. She s pedigreed and everything... "the fucking cat has fucking papers. You can't board it"... and also very timid. She s slowly coming out of hiding and exploring the house. Shogun is very curious about her but she hisses and whacks him every time he approaches. Hopefully that will end with a small period of adjustment. She ll also have an uphill battle winning affection. So far Shogun has been universally regarded as the awesomest cat ever... I assume it s the opposable thumbs that allow him to relate to humans so well... friggin freak cat. Doesn t hurt that he s so friendly and playful.
This weekend is a BloodBowl tourney outside Philly and we ll be hosting a bunch of wayward BloodBowlers. Should be a great time. Will probably be a very packed house Saturday night for UFC pay per view. Oh yeah, I didn t mention... seems Kent has turned us all into UFC junkies.
Oh, get this. I haven t done my taxes yet... I m the ultimate procrastinator. Earliest I ever start is maybe April 10. Anyway, so this weekend I get a W-2 in the mail. Apparently there was an accounting error at work and all the W-2 mailed out were wrong! Everyone who wasn t a lazy procrastinating bastard like me will have to have their submitted returns amended to account for the error. Nice. How s that for sweet justice... take that you motivated, timely, cretins!
Hm.. probably enough ramblings for now. Post is gettin kinda unwieldy.

| | | I think I had a pretty eventful weekend. It s kind of as blur and I m not sure why.
Saw Sin City twice on opening day. Amazing! Go see this film. The movie is very nearly a direct transfer of comic to film. Every shot in the film has a corresponding comic panel. The dialog, the voice-overs... all nearly verbatim. Amazing. They even did a pretty sweet job of weaving the disparate stories into a semi-cogent chronology. I was also glad to see my favorite side characters, Schlubb and Klump, make prominent appearances.
Anyway, it s an amazing piece of cinema and, unless you have an aversion for a bit of the ole ultra-violence, I urge all to go back and see it again and again.
Rest of the weekend was mostly watching movies, bringing people by the house to check it out and a few breif appearances at the Guild. Also started putting the gaming room to use as we played some BloodBowl and dove headlong into working on miniatures. Kent and I both have a lot of work to do to get teams ready for upcoming leagues and tourneys.
In world news the Pope died. I was saddened by this. Considering I didn t really even know any Catholics til college (did I mention my high school, after a little rounding, was 100% WASP) I found his death strangley poignant. I think that having visited the vatican during his reign (where I stood in line to view the exhumed Pope John the Good) I felt some tenuous pope connection. I dunno. I still think Catholicism is pretty daft in many respects... having not made the "great leap out of the Dark Ages" and all.
Well, anyway, I ll be humming the Sperm song all week in quiet eulogy.
