| | Everything old is new again. Tis the season of rebirth.
Paintball is back. Our first outting of the season was a blast at LPB. Got to shoot a lot of people. I played very well. Usually I play pretty wreckless and get killed early. This time I was only hit in a couple of games and wracked up some good kills. I also nailed a little kid in the back of the head after he was eliminated... that sucked. Looks like more paintball this weekend.
D&D is back. The much hyped Trandoria II campaign officially kicked off with great success. We were so excited to play we re playing again this week rather than the traditional every other week schedule. I m excited to be running again. And so far everybody seems to be digging the campaign.
My PC has been Vista-ized. So far I m digging it. Will definitely take some getting used to but so far I like the look and feel. It was an arduous process to upgrade. I won t go into details but in an effort to save a few bucks I wasted way too many hours of my life.
Enough for now. Got dinner cooking.
-bampf | | | It is imperative that everyone go see Hot Fuzz (aka Shaun of the Dead 2). It is frigging awesome. Thanks to one of Meghan s friends we now have an inside source at the Camp Hill Cinema Center and got a free late night pre-release viewing. It rocked.
I was expecting some Shaun-like humour, but didn t really expect a movie that would stack up to Shaun. Figured it would just be an excuse to re-use some very likable characters that couldn t be salvaged in a sequel due to Ed s zombinization (new word).
I was wrong. The film the is awesome. It really works on every level. It easily stands on its own. The movie is a perfect lampooning of every action film ever made. It works much the same way the original Scream worked with all the refernces to horror tropes that it both successfuly mocked and then complied with.
An additional note. A couple weeks ago in a forum I referred to Point Break as being "tragically underrated" -- well beleive it or not, Point Break plays a significant role in Hot Fuzz. You cannot come out of the theatre after watching Fuzz without a deep-seated longing to watch Point Break. I can t fully explain it, but it s true. It s genius.
So go see the movie. Do it now.
-bampf | | | So, I ve had MSNBC on in the background last couple days. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy has been shoving her face in front of every camera she can to endorse her anti-gun agenda. Same old tired message. Saying new legislation could have stopped this and Columbine. Now mind you, in both events, the weapons were illegally obtained. So obviously we need more redundant laws to not be enforced.
Anyway, in speaking with Tucker Carlson this loon McCarthy claims that a bill she authored would have prevented this shooting. Tucker mentioned that her bill s intent was to ban rifles with pistol grips, foregrips or barrel shrouds (harkening back to the Clinton Gun Ban, where guns were banned based on how cool they looked and not on their deadliness or some reasonable factor). He then asked McCarthy why we need to ban barrel shrouds. After ducking the question two or three times, she admitted she had no idea what a barrel shroud was! This is her bill! She supposedly authored it! It was fucking awesome!
This is the second time I ve seen Tucker Carlson call out ignorant anti-gun folks on their idiocy and for making obviously false statements. Glorious.
That is all.
-bampf | | | So I have the news on for this VT shooting thing. Crazy. Just a few days ago I watched a special looking back at Columbine. Prophetic. Columbine always struck a chord with me. A couple of smart kids who loved Doom, guns, doodling who listened to too much Rammstein and KMFDM? That was me! Add in the Gus Van Sant homoerotic undertones and you re hitting really close to home.
In any case. The crazy thing about the documentary I was watching was that a cop exchanged fire with the Columbine shooters at around 8:00 am. And then the shooters were allowed to retreat back into a SCHOOL FULL OF STUDENTS! Police then basically sat around with their thumbs lodged in their rectums for around 6 hours, while more died and wounded bled out.
So, in this VT thing, the shooter shot a couple people at 7:15 in the morning. Then TWO HOURS later shot another 30-50 people (numbers are still hazy). What the hell is wrong with cops? They had a 2 hour window and did nothing?
I mean, I know some cops. I played rugby with a few. I ve been pulled over by at least a dozen. Josh/Svengar isn t an idiot by any stretch of the imagination. Only a few that I ve encountered seemed to demonstrate this level of incompetence. It s kind of mind boggling.
Also, just to head off the inevitable rhetoric at the pass. Gun control is still bad. Guns are still good. Early reports are this was an asian gunman. Probably Japanese. As we know, the Japanese have no souls so the political issue here is Immigration Laws for the Soulless, not Gun Control. Stay on topic.
-bampf | | | And that s Tag as in the German. Like in the old Death and Taxes MST marathons. Anyone else remember them? I ve had some grand MST nostalgia of late as the old Turkey and Tax Day marathons keep coming up in casual conversation. Those were the days. Joel Hodgeson where have you gone? We need you now, in this dark hour, more than ever...
So anyway. Taxes are done again. Last minute, once again. Alas, for the first time ever I had to seek outside assistance. The vagaries of the tax code for a work from home guy like myself required some professional help. So next year now I ll have a template. Fun with the IRS. Joy.
In other exceedingly important news, Brock Sampson Show Season 2 DVD comes out this week! Buy it!! Buy it now!!
-bampf | | | I forget the exact context. I was probably putting any number of base philistines I somehow manage to associate with in their rightful places. In any case, I found myself making the following remark:If given the choice between ending world hunger or being allowed to beat Will Ferrell to death with a shovel... there s gonna be a bunch of starving kids in Africa tomorrow. The more I thought about it, the more I liked that sentiment. A new credo. Something to base a moral code upon.
Mind you, next in line after Will Ferrell is Will Ferrell fans. So you dim witted cretins keep an eye out for wayward shovels. You never know.
In other news...
Had a lovely Easter dinner with Meghan s fake family. Her family situation is so weird I guess I shouldn t be surprised she has fake aunts and uncles... I mean most of her nephews and neices are older than her. Anyway, her fake uncle makes a mean leg of lamb. It did mean I missed out on two different events with my family, but no biggie. Besides, every time I show up to an event on the Smith side there s a new baby present. Figure if I skip one, that will give some overworked uteruses (uteri?) a break.
Speaking of seasonal news. The theoretical break in weather (it did seem like spring there breifly) also means paintball is back. Jamie and I did some reffing at Linglestown Paintball. It was kinda cool. Probably do some more here and there as needed to help out. It s nice to get out and move around. And it gets the paintball itch going (even inspired Jamie into a new gun). I can foresee a busy season and more and more involvement... especially if Sum s plans come to fruition.
That s all for now. Gotta go sharpen my shovel.
