Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

So Kent and I were talking. We need some hammocks. Something to lie in outside on awesome cool nights like tonight while we read. But the question is where does one get a hammock?

I mean there's the Hammock Hut, that's on third. There s Hammocks-R-Us, that s on third too. You got Put-Your-Butt-There. That s on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot... Matter of fact, they re all in the same complex; it s the hammock complex on third... the hammock district. And there's a little place called Mary Ann's Hammocks.

But seriously, besides those five places, where does one buy a hammock? Seriously.

Oh yeah, Fuddruckers just opened up right next door. This is both blessing and curse. Blessing because we ll eat there... curse because... well... we ll eat there.

Well, the healthy eating was going well...

So things have been going well in bampf land. Work, home, personal... the whole gamut.

Work has been excellent. Looks like I m branching out and will probably be doing a fair amount of traveling and training... in addition to my development duties. I m pretty excited about that... and an order for a kickass laptop for me went in yesterday. Nice.

House has been good. No one has strangled anyone. Roleplays are in full swing. BloodBowl is rolling (despite some poor performances by my teams recently... upsets happen). Tournament this weekend in DC and then a return to Boston next month.

Looks like I ll be diving headlong back into the SCA... something I figured I would have to give up. This also represents a lot of personal vindication. So that s an added bonus. Will be nice to strap on the armour again... long overdue.

I ve been successfully dating... you know... women. So once more I m able to chase off my mother s fears of me being homosexual. That s a good thing. I guess. It s nice to keep the parents guessing.

Oh, and my poor busted teef are fixed. That s good too.

Did I mention we have the NFL Network? How did we ever survive without it? God, we were cavemen in those dark and unenlightened days of 2004.

Yeah, life is good.

My travelin ways are definitely on the rise. In two weeks I go to Michigan to give training, then to Seattle the week after for more of the same. Sweet.

Did I mention expense accounts are cool?

"The end of 'Star Wars' is long overdue — the new movies are an absolute abomination. It's hard to figure out which sequel to 'The Matrix' was worse, and 'Star Trek: Enterprise' had little in common with 'Star Trek' beyond the name. There was an explosion of geeky goodness in the last few years, and now it's time to step back, and . . . well, thin the herd, I guess."

-Wil Wheaton on the end of the Geek Era

Sad but true, Star Wars, LotR, the Matrix... for a while it almost looked like being a geek was cool. And now we re left to slink back into our dimly lit caves, having choked on our own hubris.

Sad, indeed.

I have a lot of updating to do and lots to report on, but I just wanted to get my quick review of Ep III in before I head out for lunch with Dover, TGM and others.

I m not sure if I walked in to the theatre expecting the movie to suck, or wanting the movie to suck. I think deep down I longed for a decent film to recapture some of the old magic, but on the exterior I was ready if not longing for another peice of dung. I mean you only need turn on the TV for a few minutes to see how unapologetically Lucas has mortgaged our childhood in exchange for vast mountains of cash. He s made it really hard not to hate him.

Anyway, to get on with the film. Of course, it sucked. We re not talking Ep 1 suckage... which may have been the King of All That Sucks, but it did suck just the same.

The effects were cool and there were no ridiculously retarded characters like Jar Jar in Ep 1 or alien Mel from Mel s Diner as in Ep 2. But the whole movie was just horribly forced. The plot was overly complex for as daft and non-sensical as it was. Glaringly bad leaps of logic, gaping plot holes and still the last twenty minutes felt like a mad dash to align things with Ep IV as quickly and as patch-work as possible.

The most egregious affront may have been the wookies. Why were they even in that movie, save to sell action figures? Completely pointless. The touching and inexplicable scene with Chewbacca was maybe the worst. What the hell was that? I was really waiting for Yoda to say, "And I ll miss you too, Scarecrow" a la Top Secret as a straw and tin man enter from screen left (two more action figures to market).

God. So awful.

Oh, and of course the pacing, dialogue and direction were atrocious, but that s what we ve come to expect from Lucas. So, in summation: Lucas sucks and I hate myself for adding my hard earned coin to his silo of ill-gotten monies.

So there. And all of you guys who thing the movie was good... I will come to your houses and cut you. Seriously.

Went to the dentist this morning. I hate the dentist. It s been a few years since I had gone so I was kinda worried my mouth would be beset with decay.

I was pleasantly surprised. I have two teeth that I cracked and I knew they would require some work, but other than those, I was given a clean bill of dental health. I get a cleaning tomorrow and then the two problem children get fixed next week and I m set. Nice.

In other news, roleplay is in full tilt. Had second session with Josh s game last night. Kenn s running his Quantum Leap (OK not really) inspired game, which is looking pretty cool. Colin s Modern game I m sure will be moving along soon and then I should be starting a game soon.

Cool cool cool. So in a matter of two months or so I ll go from zero roleplaying games to four. Pretty crazy.

There are other big happenings on the horizon, but I ll hold off on the details for now. Gotta maintain some levels of mystery.

My nom d'plume for our BloodBowl newsletter is Drib d'Bampf and a prolific article writer I am. The point of the story though is that long ago Jkarr submitted a photo of me to fark.com to be viciously photoshopped by the farkers. And thus my interet fame s humble beginnings. Jkarr also used one of those images for Drib s picture. So I was showing Stoner Jkarr s source material and realized there s probably a lot of you out there that never saw those photoshopped versions of me.

So without any further ado:

Farked Me

Hope you enjoy my public denigration.

Glad to be through that week of work. Ended up making Philly trips Tues through Friday. Lot of miles. Lot of driving. Lot of getting up early. I was pretty friggin beat by week s end. Maybe that s how the rest of you sorry lot feel at the end of a work week, but I m not used to that crap.

It was worth it though. I ended up doing a lot of training for some clients so it was a good warm-up for my trip in June. And I may get a laptop out of the deal. Sweet. Plus I m home all next week.

Cool, aside: one of the clients was from LA and his wife is a writer in Hollywood so he hobnobs with a lot of movie stars. He had some cool stories. Most importantly he stated that Brad is a really awesome guy to hang out with. Plus he s single now, so I have my in! Oh yeah.

Have a good weekend all. Kiss yer mothers.

So I was supposed to be in Philly Tues and Wed to sit in on a training class. On Tues I find out that I m needed on Thur as well... to teach the training class. Nothing like short notice.

That s OK. It was nice gesture of confidence that they wanted me to do it and trusted me to do it well without much in the way of preparation. Getting up early and driving sucks but I can manage for one week.

Sounds like there s also some more talk of me doing some more traveling. I ll be in Michigan for 4 days in early June. That may open up the door to more trips. I m cool with that. Business trips are cool. Expense accounts are also cool.

Hitchhiker's Guide brought to film. New Family Guy episodes. Premeire of American Dad. Wow, there s been some good stuff coming our way lately.

Granted the Family Guy episode wasn t a great but it was pretty decent and that beats the pants off most anything else out there. Thought American Dad was OK too... no Family Guy yet. Still a lot of character development going on.

As mentioned in other posts I thought Hitchhiker s Guide was very good. Would be cool to see some sequels. I was very impressed with the casting... all the characters really seemed spot on. Arthur in particular. He was just so very... british. Loved it. The only casting I didn t really care for was Malkovich, who is usually friggin awesome. He just didn t seem to fit. His character may have been the biggest stretch. Oh well. Still excellent movie.
