Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

So I spent much of the weekend at the Renn Faire for their annual Celtic Fling. Friday night they had their opening concert featuring Black 47! It was awesome. My fourth time seeing Larry and the crew and this was the strangest setting yet. It was not a Black 47 crowd. It was more a country fair sorta crowd... old people, families, red necks. It was kinda surreal. There were a solid handful of fans near the front who knew the lyrics and the Rocky Horror style crowd interaction routines, but the rest of the audience were probably a little shocked and bewildered.

In any case the band was having fun with it and put on a great show. It s been a few years since I v seen em. Two new band members since then and Larry is really starting to show his age. I still need to see em on their home turf at Paddy Reilly s in NYC before the ardors of 16+ years of continual touring takes its toll and the poor bastards just implode.

After a lazy Saturday, we went back Sunday for the actual Celtic Fest. It was pretty cool. Basically just Renn Faire Lite with a bit of a Celtic slant (there were still Pirates and Vikings and what not about) and a bit o rain (for that authentic Britainia feel). Always a fun time. Missed the celtic games on Saturday... so sadly, no cabers were tossed. There s a big Celtic fest in Carlisle in the fall... maybe I ll get my chance then.

Strange desires for a 90% Kraut, I know. I just can t help but be fascinated by the odd habits of these lesser mongrel races.

Anyway, I m gonna wrap this up as the flickering lights, thunder and lightning all threaten to do it for me.

Back from a great weekend in Beantown. Kent cast off his Daoist ways and joined us at the very last minute, making the trip that much better. Great time was had by all. I faired OK. Finishing 4th and for the first time in forever failed to win Best Painted. Alas and alack. But I did eat myself violently ill at Fire and Ice, so mission accomplished!

This is a fantastic annual trip and I hope the traditions continues. Maybe next year we ll have an even larger crew. We ll see.

In other news, apparently there s some kind of soccer thing going on. Thankfully Americans still don t care.

Actually I ve got the World Cup on in the background, mostly because its in HD, but also so I can continue to bash the sport in a well informed manner. So, for any soccer fans who may be reading... is EVERY soccer player a sissy-ass girl? It s absurd. Every time anyone is even touched by another player they go into five minutes of absurd histrionics even while the game rages on about them (and this is maybe the most liberal application of "rages" as a verb ever). Seriously. How fucking lame are these wimps?

When will Europeans learn? Poor dumb savages.

Racquetball and general fitness concerns continue, as I brazenly make my way toward bikini season. Oh yeah. Soon, I ll be dead sexy again. You wait and see.

Boston looms just a few days away. Should be a fun trip. Always is. Alas, Kent has bailed like a big sissy, but it is his way. He s very Daoist in that respect, always opting for inactivity over activity. I knew I shouldn t have let him borrow my copy of the Dao-Te-Ching for toilet reading.

As much as I hate linking in my blog, there s another gem I must share, courtesy of Lore Sjoberg. For all the horrid attempts by people trying to make amusing videos based on video games there was bound to be a funny one eventually. And Lore has found it... For Mario

Enjoy. I started weeping I was laughing so hard.

The witch is dead!! Fuck you forever, Nextel. Worst... phone... company... ever. As of right now I m the proud owner of a Verizon phone that I have no idea how to use. So far Stoner has taught me how to change my ring and Kent has guided me in setting up my voice mail... you kids and yer gadgets.

What I did not have a chance to do, sadly, is take my Nextel phone to the range and blast the hell out of it. So far I ve settled for spiking the thing and throwing it against solid objects. Soon, though, vengence shall be reaped.

Reap it, Nextel! Reap it.

Less than a week til Boston. I ve pretty much accepted that I will not have my new team painted in time and will probably go for an all lizardman PA team. That would be cool. Purple Saurus Rex forever!

So happy Satan Day to one and all. I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, I d look out the window this morning and brimstone would be raining down. Wouldn t that be a fun time? The End of Days... I could put to use some of my amassed arsenal to gun down the foot soldiers of the anti-christ (rather than boring old standbys of paper targets and the occasional plastic bottle). It would be like Red Dawn just with fewer Cubans and more Apocolypse, but we d still call ourselves the Wolverines!

Damn right.

Well, anyway. Since the rivers, sadly, are not running red with blood, I m left to give a boring normal update.

Coming off an excellent weekend spent with Chad and Mark T. Hadn t seen Mark in a couple of years. We had a grand time trapsing about the Gettysburg College campus, reminscing and reliving old memories. Even managed to hunt down the bangpitcher breifly. We drove around a lot, gorged ourselves, enjoyed many Slurpees and witnessed a Bear store whose sheer enormity truly set the mind reeling.

All in all, a most excellent long weekend.

In other news I have joined a gym with the Wanderer and Piz and have been playing much racquetball. Lost five pounds in a week. Hopefully the trend continues.

Preparations for Boston will soon reach a fevered pitch as I attempt to paint a full BloodBowl team in two weeks time (usually it takes me months). Fun fun fun.

All the while we continue to move Meghan in and the house is thrown into further (hopefully temporary) disarray.

Well, that s it for now.
