Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

Forgot to mention that this week is Shippensburg Fair week. Nice. And it s only about a block away. Chicken Corn Soup... you shall be mine. Oh yes.

Well, so much for my anticipated stardom. Oh well. I hear it s not all it s cracked up to be.

In other news I have a new haircut. We decided to try something different. Very different. And so right now I have almost no hair. Entire head shaved down to 3/8th of an inch. Never did that before. It s taking some getting used to... it really reveals how mishapen and battered my poor noggin is but it s growing on both Kristyn and I. It s uber low maintenance so that makes me happy. There s talk about shaving me bald for Pennsic (leaving sideburns and goatee of course)... could make for a testing ground for my ever thinning scalp. Damn old age. Ah well. It s only hair.

For those who may be interested, the article about midstate Bloggers appears in today s Sunday edition of the Carlisle Sentinel. It s a pretty big article in the Free Time section. Check it out if ya get a chance. It contains quotes from 4 or 5 midstate bloggers (alas three of them were pictured, I was not). However my url was listed so hopefully I ll get a few casual surfers stopping by, I m not holding my breath though. All in all it was pretty cool though (I did get a chance to explain the bampf appelation... sweet). I m a somebody... my legacy is complete.

So next week I m taking a mini-vacation. The Kent and I are heading to Boston for a BloodBowl tournament. Should be an awesome time. It may mark a new era of travelling great distances to play BloodBowl... nothing wrong with that. I m just an addict.

Neither of us have been to Boston before so we re hoping to squeeze a little exploring in amid the skull bashing and TD scoring. We re hoping to bring back some hardware too. I think I ll have a legitimate shot at winning the tourney and possibly best painted (my new orc team is my best work to date). Kent is looking to win Most Entertaining Opponenent... he s got a good shot. That may all go out the window though as there are a few players traveling from Quebec... if we play them we ll be obliged to ridicule them mercilessly for being silly wannabe frogs. That ll learn em.

So, anyway, what I m getting at here is really just that BloodBowl is life. Thought you all should know.

Oh, something worth mentioning. A reporter for the local paper (the Sentinel) emailed me last night looking to do a story on the Blog phenomenon. Apparently she found the BampfBlog(tm) by searching for Carlisle. So anyway, I answered some questions for her and it looks like the BampfBlog will be used in an upcoming article. So look for it in either this or next week s Sunday edition Carlisle Sentinel.

We ll have to see if the publicity means there will be random people digging through some of my more incendiary comments and complaining... could lead to some fun times.

This also will mark the first time I ve been quoted in the Sentinel since I was interviewed outside the Carlisle theatre after waiting in line for 17 hours for Phantom Menace tickets (which I really wanted to add to my life events list last post but forgot).

Anyway, as I hurtle towards assured celebrity take solace in my pledge that I won t forget you little people once I m a star.

Just a few days into my third decade. Interesting. Definitly don t feel a decade older... I figure it ll hit me eventually.

I guess now is the time for the soul searching introspection that such a milestone age requires.

So my summation of 30 years of life on this planet: Good.

Yeah, things have been good. No regrets.

In thirty years:

I have received awards for academics, athletics, art
I have received a Bachelor s degree in Physics
I have held three 'real' jobs, each better and higher paying than the previous
I have felt the exhilaration of playing for champion sports teams
I have felt the dispiriting losses of playing for terrible sports teams
I have seriously injured/hospitalized numerous opponents (including one illegal forearm to the face)
I have received multiple concussions, a seperated shoulder, but never a broken bone
I have been a teacher
I have been respectfully called Mr. Smith by a student 40 years my senior
I have lost control of ill-mannered classrooms
I have lived at way too many addresses (11)
I have owned and sold a house
I have seen the Cistine Chapel
I have been to Vegas (twice)
I have fulfilled a dream by opening a gaming store
I have fought alongside thousands of combatants in medieval re-enactments
I have served as a pall bearer more times than I d like to count
I have won Best Ass competitions
I have danced naked in a bar
I have had adventures aplenty
I have aquired innumerable great friends
I have married my absolute dream girl

Like I said. Good.

So I m 30 today. Strange, I don t feel any different. But alas my carefree and happy-go-lucky days of my 20s are over, ushering in the new carefree and happy-go-lucky days of my 30s. Huzzah.

Anyway, the birthday party was good. Quite a few people dropped by through the course of the day. The amount of food was ridiculous! We literally filled the van with food. Kristyn spent at least 15 solid hours cooking over the course of three days nearing $300 worth of high class victuals.

For those who missed out, I will taunt you with the menu:

Polynesian meatballs with sweet and sour sauce
Beef stew
Peanutballs
Parmesan and parsley chicken tenders with cheesy garlic dipping mayo
Infamouse spicy beefy cheese dip
Sun dried tomato, olive and feta crostini
Glazed, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts
Deviled eggs
Homemade chex mix
Roasted corn guacamole
Pine bark (Saltines coated in almond toffee and covered in chocolate and slivered almonds)
Chocolate Chip Banana bars

Store bought additions:
Cake (chocolate with peanut butter icing)
Chips
Dip
Soda

yeah, it was a feast of titanic proportions. And all of it really good. Good stuff. I also suddenly have a new Khemri army as guest generously bought me gifts from my new army wishlist (and then Rich filled in all the gaps). Nice! Thanks guys. Started assembling already. Fantasy Battles is where it s at. Even Kristyn is looking into making an army. Double nice!

Well, I ll ruminate on the getting old/30 thing later and post my thoughts. In the mean time, back to work.

I m really sucking at this blog thing lately aren t I? Oh well. Been busy. Kristyn s off house sitting in Philly whilst I house sit in Ship. Of course, that s a misnomer. The houses down require some one to sit upon them, it s the fucking dogs that live within said houses. Don t ever get a dog. Seriously. Ever. If you want to be girdled for twenty years just have a friggin kid... it s less worry and you can at least make them mow the lawn.

Anyway, with wife away, I ve been able to hang out at the Guild a lot. I ve played tons of BloodBowl and have been really pushing the game. We ve got a ton of new players onboard. Soon all will realize BloodBowl is life! I am pleased.

Sunday was fighter practice in the oppressive heat. Good Pennsic prelude. What s my hobby? Sweating in armour. But I get to whack people so it s OK.

For those of you unaware my 30th birthday is rapidly approaching. I ll probably take some time later this week to reflect on my mortality and mid-life crises and what not. But in the mean time I wanted to announce my party. I ve been doing my best to spread the word but I m sure I ve forgotten plenty of people. The party is this Sunday the 18th at the Guild. Kristyn has pledged to make barrels brimming with victuals. And there ll be cake. So come. Revel. The party is officially invite only (to keep the Guild unwanteds outta my tasty bday foods) but if you re reading this, consider yourself invited. Festivities start roughly round noon.

7/6/2004 3:09:03 PM         Anniversaries and FireworksComments (0)
Fourth of July has quickly become a real festive holiday in bampf-land! This was the third year for a dedicated illegal fireworks event and it s now coupled with my anniversary.

This year s pyrotechnics were pretty impressive. Seven or eight of us setting off munitions non-stop for two hours plus... oh yeah. And every year we further the risk of personal injury through mad experimentation. This year saw the introduction of the shoulder mounted rocket firing... at one point we managed to simultaneously light six uber bottle rockets and jam them into the launcher in the nick of time. Good stuff. I managed to suffer only one minor burn and a blistered thumb from excessive lighter use... pretty good for a night s work.

The other big event was the anniversary. One year. Wow. It s really flown by. Couldn t help but reminisce aplenty about our wondrous wedding. To celebrate, Kristyn prepared a feast of monumental proportions... filets, whole lobsters, mashed potatoes, and a tasty vegetable thing of her own devising. Followed up with year old wedding cake fresh outta the freeze. The cake stood up surprisingly well and was quite tasty even though all of its icing had fallen off. So it was a gluttonous celebration of our amazing first year of marriage... seemed strangely fitting. I m looking foward to many more.

In other news, BloodBowl is life. Slowly all are accepting this universal truth. After years of work, Kent has finally caved and now agrees. Kenn, Corey and Angus are quickly following. Schaef is next on the hit list. Soon I ll have them all. There ll be no escape! Oh yeah! Love it.
