Quote of the Day:
Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when blue blade flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content. -Conan of Cimmeria

We are back.

Twas a long, eventful and muddy week. We had a really great time but are also happy to be home. I m not really inspired enough to give a detailed description of the week... give me some recovery time, suffice to say we had 5 days of the best weather followed by two days of the worst, at which point we pre-maturely packed up camp and got the hell outta Dodge.

Did do some good fighting. Burnt some more bridges (as we often do) and had a grand ole time doing it. My ass met it first defeat and my head developed a nasty case of Nurgle s rot (the shaved head experiment had some serious consequences). Details to come.

Also, football season is nigh. BloodBowl season is nigh. Life is good.

We re Pennsic bound in just a few short hours. Sweet. As usual we ve procrastinated packing and organizing til the very last minute. Typical. Oh well.

Should be a great time. Besides the hurricane aftermath the weather is supposed to be great. That ll be a releif. Last year apparently most every tent became a raft for most of the week... no fun.

My thumb is feeling better. Most of my movement is back, it just feels a little tender. I m sure it will be fine come first battle Monday. Sweet sweet battles! Oh yeah. Here I come.

See you all in a week.

Yeah, we re just days away from Pennsic. Preparations are moving forward at a breakneck pace. Still much to do. Especially since Kristyn is the camp cook. To add to the last minute drama we realized yesterday that our tent was destroyed in a house fire last year. Great. Love these last minute shockers. Oh well, it s still gonna be a good time. We re looking forward to it immensely (although Kristyn still has some cooking anxieties I m sure she ll do fine). Long periods of absolute procsratination followed by breif periods of maddening labor are pretty much the standard round here so no biggie.

This past Sunday I managed to smash my thumb pretty good at fighter practice. Multiple diagnoses from a variety of people with no medical training ranged from broken to hairline fractured to bruised. I m hoping for bruised. Or at least for the swelling to subside and full range of movement to return by the first Pennsic battle on Monday. If not I ll just figure out a weapon configuration that allows me to fight and still protect the thumb... I ll fight left handed if I have to!

Mmmm... Pennsic battles.

So I returned from my Philly commute yesterday just in time to see Harrisburg devastated by a massive storm. Supposedly a couple of tornados even touched down nearby. A state of emergency had been declared. It was great. Power was out. Streets were flooded. Trees were down. Branches and limbs were everywhere. We were clearly amid the End of Days.

So I hung out at the Guild for a while. Our role play night was promptly pre-empted when we decided to instead frolick in the flooded streets! We had a grand time splashing each other and challenging passing vehicles to attempt to ford the watery impass. Good stuff. We found one of the plastic pumpkin shaped Trick-or-treat buckets and used it to douse each other (and passersby), that eternal pig-fucker, Josh, got me good a couple of times, including twice when my mouth was open... ew... nasty dirty storm drain rain water.

We eventually grew weary of our play and returned to the Guild. I stripped off my wet close and tormented the Magic players (who had set up a table outside to play by moonlight) in my underwear for a while. We have photo documentation of all of this. Remind me never to go into politics... there are so many incriminating photos of me floating around that would surface.

So, anyway, rather than drive home in my new car in dripping wet clothes I opted to drive home nekkid instead. If I had been pulled over, a cop woulda had quite a story yo recount back at the station.

So that was my non-BloodBowl highlight of the week. Speaking of BloodBowl, as you all may have noticed in his comment, BloodBowl has completely consumed Kent s brain. That makes me happy. We breifly discussed quitting our jobs and moving to Europe where we could trek from BloodBowl tourney to BloodBowl tourney in a beat-up VW bus... ah that would be the life... we dare to dream.

Tonight Kristyn finally returns to me from her beach vacation. Yeah! So that will be nice. I miss mah baby. After that we begin Pennsic preparations. Man, where did this summer go? Time flies when yer having fun, huh?

Just got back from Boston. Kinda sick of driving right now. But we had a glorious time! The tournament was great. Played some really good games of BloodBowl against some really good opponents. Kent and I both made good showings for ourselves but ended up in the middle of the pack. My dice went horribly cold after my first game and Kent was one easy roll away from turning a loss into a tie and another roll away from turning a tie into a win... such is the way with BloodBowl. The dice gods are fickle.

However we both accomplished what we set out to do. I won the Best Painted army and got a nice trophy and a free team out of it and Kent won Most Entertaining Opponent. So we were both really happy about that. We re already making tentative plans to attend more tourneys.

We also garnered a newfound respect for French-Canadians. There was a Quebec contingent that made the trip down. They were all really great guys. Our pre-conceptions of silly wannabe frenchies were dashed asunder. The only people they hated more than 'Anglo-Canadians' (a demonstrably dispiccable people) were the French! Nice!!

We didn t really have much time to explore. We wandered around Harvard Yard a lot and had some awesome dinners, but only ventured into actual Boston once. We visited the Boston Science Museum, which in an amazing bout of serendipity opened their Lord of the Rings exhibit the day after we arrived. So we got to see a ton of the Weta Workshop props/costumes etc, as well as some really cool Alan Lee sketches and artwork... it was worth wrestling with their crappy public transportation system to see. We also managed to cross over the bridge from the opening sequence of Boondock Saints, so I was satisfied. Otherwise the city reminded me of a dirtier version of Philly with residents just more pissed off about construction.

I ll give more details later. For now I m beat and not looking forward to my Philly commute tomorrow.
